On Wednesday, January 10th, 2024, the House unanimously passed H.4241 – An Act to prevent abuse and exploitation. This bill will aid in preventing abuse and exploitation from occurring and in enhancing protections for victims and survivors.

This morning I had the pleasure of meeting with the Wellesley Climate Action Committee to discuss reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting sustainability, and transitioning to clean heat alternatives. I’m hopeful the legislature will pass an omnibus climate bill this session.

Today, I joined Governor Healey and Lt. Governor Driscolls as they announced a new state-wide initiative to prevent and combat hate crimes in the Commonwealth. The initiative intends to confront and deter hate crimes, support victims, and foster community resiliency.

The Massachusetts Constitution — the first in the nation — guarantees us all freedom and equality, safety and happiness. Acts of hate are attacks on democracy, and we won’t stand for that in our state.
Healey-Driscoll Administration takes new actions to address hate. Hate Crimes Awareness and Response Team. The Massachusetts State Police has formed a new unit dedicated full- time to tracking hate crime, responding to incidents, and working in broad partnerships to prevent it from spreading. This new unit will work with community partners and local and federal law enforcement to develop training, best practices, and educational outreach. Hate Crimes Prevention Grant Program. The latest round of funding through the Hate Crimes Prevention Grant Program by the Executive Office of Education will support strategies topromote safety and inclusion in schools and communities.
