Today is not just a day off work, a day of bargain shopping, or simply another federal holiday. It’s far more than that. It’s a day to remember. Only three Americans have had a day specifically named for them, and one of them is today…a day set aside to remember one of the most influential men, not only in the Civil Rights movement, but also in American History, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His leadership resulted in African Americans, and those of all races, having an equal opportunity to pursue the American Dream on their own terms.
I’m thankful for great leaders like Dr. King who had the courage to fight for what is right, even though it certainly wasn’t the easy thing to do in those days. Though his life was cut short, his legacy lives on today and continues to inspire Americans from all walks of life. Let’s remember the lasting legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. today.
