Last year, President Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans secured a historic $50 billion investment into rural healthcare through the Rural Health Transformation Program. I had the opportunity to speak at this week’s summit and share my work supporting rural hospital networks and the patients they serve. It was wonderful to speak to our next generation of leaders participating in this year’s American Legion Mountaineer Boys State. This incredible program was created to teach good government through direct participation. These campers will spend the week taking on the roles of elected officials to gain a firsthand perspective of our system of government.

The recent passage of the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2027 secured over $4.1 million that I requested for rural EMS and public safety projects in southern West Virginia. Our first responders are the backbone of our state, providing critical care to those in need. I am grateful that these vital projects are one step closer to receiving the funding they deserve. On the 82nd Anniversary of D-Day, we remember the extraordinary courage of the Americans who stormed the beaches of Normandy to defend freedom at its darkest hour. Among them were 38 brave sons of West Virginia, whose sacrifice and legacy will forever be etched in our nation’s history. May we never forget.

My bill, the Improving Home Dialysis Act, passed last week’s Ways and Means Committee markup, earning bipartisan support and bringing it one step closer to a vote by the full House of Representatives. This bill would allow Medicare to reimburse for home dialysis support services. Home dialysis patients deserve the same services and access to care as those receiving treatment in-center, and I am happy to see this legislation move forward.

This Memorial Day, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. May we never forget the price that has been paid for the freedoms we enjoy today.
