251 years ago, the United States Army was established — and the brave men and women who have served in its ranks have defended our freedom ever since. I'm honored to represent so many Army veterans and soldiers in NC-11.🇺🇸

As the only North Carolina Appropriator, every markup is an opportunity to deliver for WNC. I helped advance the FY27 Homeland Security and Labor-HHS funding bills this week — securing $26 billion for the Disaster Relief Fund, improving FEMA transparency, protecting Helene survivors from insurance claim delays, and investing in border security and rural health care across NC-11.

America's military readiness depends on a secure supply chain — including the batteries powering our troops in contested environments. After touring Magnera's facility in NC earlier this year, I met with their team in Washington to discuss investment in safer, domestically sourced lithium battery technology for the U.S. Army. Reducing our dependence on foreign battery components isn't just good economics, it's a national security imperative.

Securing these funds is critical to finally moving from recovery to rebuilding. These resources allow us to get to work restoring our roads, rebuilding our bridges, and repairing the infrastructure Western North Carolina depends on every single day to keep communities connected and moving forward. carolinajournal.com/fema-app…

ABCCM serves more than 30,000 individuals each year and is on the front lines of addressing poverty, homelessness, and veteran hardship across Western North Carolina. I met with their team to discuss veteran housing and recovery needs, including the important work being done through the Veterans Restoration Quarters, which provides 250 beds for homeless veterans. That’s also why I introduced the Justice for America’s Veterans and Survivors Act — to ensure families of veterans lost to suicide receive the recognition and benefits they deserve.

NC-11 is home to thousands of veterans who deserve a VA system that works for them. I joined @RepBost to improve veteran access to care, strengthen benefits, and modernize VA services through the Take Care of America’s Veterans Act. This legislation will better support our veterans and military families in WNC and across the country. 🇺🇸

Hurricane Helene showed just how critical strong local communities and prepared first responders are when disaster strikes. At today’s @HouseAppropsGOP FY27 Homeland Security markup, we’re advancing legislation that supports emergency preparedness, strengthens disaster response, and helps communities recover and rebuild.

After months of political games, House Republicans voted to fully fund CBP and ICE, ensuring our border and immigration enforcement agencies have the resources they need to keep communities in NC-11 and across the country safe. I’ll continue supporting policies that strengthen border security and support our law enforcement officers.

The Alzheimer's Association is the world's leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support, and research. I joined the Alzheimer's Association for an update on NIH research funding and the latest advances in early detection technology that could change the trajectory of this disease for millions of Americans.

Brevard, Marion, Fletcher, Murphy, and Robbinsville are five NC-11 communities getting the wastewater and sewer infrastructure investments they need through the @HouseAppropsGOP FY2027 Interior bill. $5.6 million of this funding would protect water quality, expand capacity, and keep our communities moving forward.

North Carolina’s cattle producers feed families, support rural economies, and steward millions of acres of farmland. I met with the NC Cattlemen’s Association to discuss conservation programs, foreign animal disease preparedness, and legislation like the Farm Bill that helps keep NC-11’s cattle industry strong.
