This is another tragic day in America, but it is not unusual day. As children went off to their first day of school across the country, families In Minneapolis are learning that some of their children will not be coming home. 1/3

Other families will be visiting their children in hospitals. I am presently in Minneapolis where I am attending a meeting of the Democratic National Committee, 4.7 miles from the school where this tragedy unfolded. 2/3

I have spent my entire career fighting and enacting effective laws to prevent these tragedies. We have done so in Massachusetts and it works, but we need to do it on a national level. Thoughts and Prayers aren't enough. The time is now. 3/3
