Taxpayer dollars should support the people who truly need them. Sending federal funds to fraudsters is a serious failure, which is why I voted for more oversight into where these dollars are going.
I caught up with students from Platte‑Geddes outside the Capitol this week. It was great to chat with them and answer a few questions about what’s happening in Congress.
The federal government loses an estimated $233 billion to $521 billion to fraud every year. This is unacceptable. I voted to pass several common-sense bills to stop fraud in government programs because every taxpayer dollar matters.
I found some Bulldogs in the Capitol today! Madison Middle School’s 8th graders are in D.C. this week. I had a great time chatting with them during their visit.
Congratulations to Mark Cruz on his nomination for Director of the Indian Health Service. Mark has strong ties to South Dakota’s tribal leaders and volunteered with Teach for America at Rosebud. He will lead IHS well and improve health care for Native communities across South Dakota and beyond. I look forward to the Senate confirming him quickly.

I spoke to Girls State attendees in Vermillion about the importance of civic engagement at all levels of government. They had some great questions about leadership, supporting South Dakota ag, and the future impact of artificial intelligence. I’m looking forward to seeing how they improve their communities and our country.
LiDAR may not be a household name, but the technology provides millimeter‑level data of America’s infrastructure. We cannot rely on Chinese LiDAR systems to examine our roads, and I’m glad my bill to protect America from this spy technology is included in @TransportGOP’s BUILD America 250 Act.
The students at Boys State in Aberdeen are a fun and thoughtful group. It was great to talk with them about Congress and the role of the federal government. I know their work will improve South Dakota and America over the next 20 years and beyond.
This #MemorialDay we honor the brave men and women who gave everything for our freedom. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. I’m grateful today and every day.
🚨 PASSED out of @TransportGOP – the BUILD America 250 Act provides a historic investment in our transportation infrastructure to repair roads and bridges, improve our supply chain, and strengthen our national security.
China has built a multi‑billion‑dollar industry by selling illegal, dangerous vapes to our kids. China must stop evading our trade laws and stop sending these vapes into our country.

America’s infrastructure is lagging behind China’s. Our roads are filled with potholes and many of our bridges need rebuilt. D.C. bureaucrats must reject political and climate agendas and let the free market work to revitalize our highways and our supply chain.

The proof is in the pudding—Chinese companies have been colluding and manipulating the global shipping markets for years, DOUBLING costs for U.S. shippers and increasing consumer prices. This is wholly unacceptable.
That’s why we need my bill to reauthorize the FMC signed into law—to stop these bad actors in their tracks. justice.gov/opa/pr/four-worl…
HEROES. I had the privilege of thanking veterans for their service at Arlington National Cemetery. The Midwest Honor Flight is a remarkable program, and I’m grateful to have shared in their experience.
I talked with employees of American Bank & Trust about the impact year-round E15 would have for South Dakota, my work to improve the Postal Service, the Farm Bill, and the importance of economic growth. Thanks for having me!
It’s National Emergency Medical Services Week, a great time to show thanks to those who show up and save lives. I’ve done a shift in the Rapid City Emergency Department and saw first-hand how dedicated EMS workers are to protecting their communities.
Truckers drive our economy and keep goods moving. I joined the South Dakota Trucking Association’s Truck Driving Competition Banquet to thank them for their hard work and share what I’m doing to support their efforts.
Iran can’t be allowed to control the Strait of Hormuz and global trade. President Trump and our allies understand this and I’m hopeful cooler heads will prevail.
Volunteer firefighters and EMS workers provide essential services to South Dakota communities. It was great to catch up with the SD Firefighters Association this week to discuss our efforts to secure resources for volunteer fire departments in the House-passed Farm Bill.
