Six months ago, I testified before the House Agriculture Committee to share a stark warning: If the Administration and Congress didn't move quicker to deploy resources and properly invest in eradicating the New World Screwworm, this invasive pest will make its way to Texas and devastate America's ranchers. The Administration's failure to listen to the experts on the ground early on will now raise costs on both ranchers and consumers.

Free trade deals like the USMCA have greatly benefited South Texas's economy. But to maintain our region's role as a key international trade corridor, we must use next month's USMCA renegotiations as an opportunity to enact measures to safeguard cargo from falling in the hands of drug cartels and other criminal organizations. Congratulations to South Texan, Steve Sanchez, on celebrating 50 years of service working for the North Alamo Water Supply Corporation. Mr. Sanchez began his career right out of high school as a water meter reader, and has served as a General Manager since 2010. #TeamGonzalez commemorated his achievement with a U.S. flag flown over the Capitol and a letter of recognition on my behalf. Thank you for you hard work and dedication to our region, Mr. Sanchez!

Millions of seniors will face devastating $500 monthly cuts to their benefits unless Congress acts to close the funding shortfall and reverse this Administration's cuts to Social Security. I'm fighting to defend a critical lifeline that so many South Texas seniors, workers with disabilities, and veterans rely on. Failure is not an option -- and every extreme Republicans in Congress who refuses to speak out are complicit in taking more of your hard earned money.

The Rio Grande Valley is a booming region--in large part because of the work we're doing to expand educational opportunities for South Texas children. Over the last decade, I've delivered nearly $8 billion in federal funding to our region for Title I schools and more. Although this Administration wants to put Title I funds on the chopping block, I won't stop fighting to ensure every child can reach their full potential.

It was a pleasure to welcome leaders from across the Rio Grande Valley to our nation’s Capital for the annual RGV to DC trip! Together, we will continue our efforts to bring federal resources home that will help grow the region and strengthen our economy. From the Port of Brownsville to the energy corridors of the Valley and the classrooms of UTRGV to the small businesses lining our Main Streets, we are building something great that will last for generations to come!

Great to welcome the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce to my D.C. office this week. As someone who grew up in Corpus, I know firsthand the difference federal investments can make in raising the quality of living and growing our economy. This starts with addressing a severe water shortage and creating more high-paying jobs.

Dealing with a federal agency can be a challenge, but you don’t have to go through it alone. My office got to work after a future medical resident in South Texas contacted us for assistance with obtaining proper USCIS documentation needed to advance in their career. Now, this South Texan will get the medical education and professional skillsets required to help care for our neighbors. If you’re experiencing issues with a federal agency, visit my website or call my office at 956-682-5545.

While nothing can bring back Brownsville native Angelina Resendiz, her murder must be a catalyst for change. In response to her death, language I authored passed into law last year to increase the military's transparency and urgency in responding to service members who go missing while on duty. And now, I'm demanding the Navy conduct a public, comprehensive investigation into how its failed response contributed to this tragedy. To ensure no military family endures the same pain, we must do more to protect our service members.

21-year-old Jermiah Copeland pleaded guilty to multiple charges in connection to the killing of Navy sailor Angelina Resendiz — including obstruction of justice and aggravated assault.

We knew the New World Screwworm was slowly inching its way to our southern border. The signs were there over the last two years, yet Washington and this Administration were slow to respond. Now, we're playing catch-up while putting some of our most vulnerable communities at risk. rgvbusinessjournal.com/news/…

Small businesses are the backbone of our region, and #TeamGonzalez was thrilled to celebrate the ribbon cutting ceremony for Tortilleria Marylu’s & Restaurant #2 in San Benito! A second location is a testament to the dedication and hard work this team brings to our region. Thank you for investing in our community and sharing your delicious food with us all. Congratulations and wishing you all the success!

Mr. Ramiro “RAM” Chavez, a Vietnam veteran, founded the Veterans Band of Corpus Christi to honor American troops and veterans. #TeamGonzalez had the honor to present Mr. Chavez, as well as his band members, with a Congressional Certificate and an American flag flown over the U.S. Capitol to commemorate their 40th anniversary. Thank you to Mr. Chavez and all the band’s members for their service and for continuing to recognize other South Texas veterans and fallen heroes.

The Administration isn’t targeting criminals, they’re detaining doctors, teachers, nurses and more. It’s cruelly un-American. But make no mistake: Public pressure works and we must continue to shed light on this Administration’s abuse of power against those who are legally authorized to live and work in the U.S.

While inflation spikes to the highest level in years and prices families out of summer travel, this Administration is doing anything but making life more affordable for South Texans. Families work too hard to have their summer plans scrapped because they can’t afford it. I am urgently fighting for lower costs so your next trip doesn’t break the bank.

#TeamGonzalez was elated to congratulate the Santa Gertrudis ISD softball team with a Congressional Record for winning the 2026 State Championship—their second title in program history. Congratulations, and keep making South Texas proud! 🦁

If not eradicated, the New World Screwworm could devastate South Texas farmers and ranchers. Time is of the essence to protect our state's $15 billion cattle industry, and it requires and all-hands-on-deck approach. This starts with listening to the experts on the ground.
