Another tangible milestone for AUKUS Pillar I. This security agreement is not just on whiteboards. All three navies are executing its advancement in real time in 2026.

Eastern Connecticut needs more quality and affordable homes to meet demand and lower costs. I met with the Home Builders and Remodelers of CT to discuss the work ahead to increase our region’s housing supply.   The House just passed the 21st Century Road to Housing Act, a major reform bill to clear pathways to housing construction nationwide. There’s more to be done, namely strengthening the construction workforce.

This week’s Social Security solvency report is a clear warning to Congress that we must reverse the Trump policies that are damaging the program and act swiftly to prevent the 2032 benefit cut.   Social Security is an earned benefit – not an entitlement – that Americans pay into their entire working lives.

Eastern Connecticut is the proud home to so many multi-generation family-owned dairy farms who supply nutritious products to our communities. Today, I met with local dairy farmers Tia and Brandon Smith of Cushman Farms in Lebanon and Christopher Crane, an agriculture business student from New Canaan to discuss how Congress can do more to support dairy farms. The number of dairy farms in Connecticut is declining, making the need to support the next generation of farmers so critical.

Mike Johnson calls Social Security an “entitlement” and says he has a plan for it to be “adjusted and fixed.”   Social Security is an earned benefit – not an entitlement – and as we’ve warned repeatedly, it’s about to hit a cliff, now in 2032. In Connecticut, that would mean an average loss of $556/month in benefits.    The way to prevent this is by making the rich pay their fair share in payroll tax – the same as middle and working-class Americans.

June is Gun Violence Awareness Month, a time to remember the lives lost and the communities forever changed by the scourge of gun violence. We must renew our commitment to ending gun violence and create a safer future for our children.

I voted no on the unpaid-for partisan budget bill. At a time when Americans want their elected leaders to focus on the cost of living, this bill does nothing to address affordability. Instead, it gives a $70 billion blank check to President Trump’s ICE. These are not the priorities the American people are looking for.

The Communication Workers Union has a proud history representing the men and women who have built and maintained the technology of networks that our population and economy depend on. I recently met with the Communications Workers of America Local 1298 who represent over 3,300 talented Connecticut workers who show up for work every day to keep us connected. We discussed the pressing need to ensure access to affordable health care for their members amid cuts by the Big Ugly Bill that will cost shift onto their hard earned plans. As a Member of the House Education and Workforce Committee, I will continue fighting to protect workers’ rights.

Last week, the House passed the Ukraine Support Act, a bill to provide support to the people of Ukraine in their defense of their homeland and impose economic sanctions on Russia. Passage of this bill sends a clear message to our European partners and allies that Congress remains committed to upholding our shared values and security. The Senate should follow suit and pass the Ukraine Support Act.

Today is the 82nd anniversary of the D-Day invasion. On June 6th, 1944, over 160,000 allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy to free Europe from Nazi control. Above all today, we honor the 2,501 Americans killed on the longest day. D-Day serves as a powerful reminder of the United States’ role with our allies to defend democracy around the globe.

The House Armed Services Committee just advanced the FY 2027 National Defense Authorization Act. After five months of work in a bipartisan fashion, the annual defense bill delivers on major priorities for Connecticut military servicemembers and families, shipbuilders, and aerospace workers.

President Trump’s cartoonish battleship is the exact opposite of every lesson we’ve learned on shipbuilding. In a world with hypersonic missiles that can cover thousands of miles, our Navy does not need a lumbering, vulnerable battleship. I spoke in support of an amendment to the annual defense bill that would strike all funding ($1 billion) for the battleship program.

Thanks to Mystic River Homes for hosting me for a town hall with residents earlier this week. We discussed the hiring surge at nearby Electric Boat, the need to build more affordable housing for people of all ages, and the need to protect Social Security and Medicare. I told the story of Ida May Fuller, the recipient of the first-ever Social Security check. I’m fighting to ensure Social Security remains reliable for seniors today and for future generations who have paid into it their entire working lives.

On the fourth attempt, the House has finally passed a War Powers Resolution to halt President Trump’s unilateral war in Iran. Finally, the House has showed that Congress is willing to act as co-equal branch and rein in the reckless actions of this President.

The Long Island Sound is a treasure for southeastern CT. Project Oceanology’s research vessel programs connect students to its ecosystem in an unforgettable way. As a 2026 Community Project, I worked with Project Oceanology to secure $960,000 in federal funding to purchase a new research vessel. I visited last week to tour an older research vessel and discuss how the new vessel will allow them to provide ocean-based marine science experiences to more students.

The Yellow Farmhouse Education Center in Stonington is building a coalition of community members to create a local, sustainable food system that is available to all. Last week, I visited to discuss a Farm to School grant that the Center was recently awarded to expand their reach, bringing more opportunities for students and teachers alike. As a Member of the Education and Workforce Committee, which authorizes this USDA grant program, I will continue working to build strong relationships between our schools and farms, offering future generations opportunities like this throughout our region’s diverse agricultural communities.
