On June 12, we celebrate Women Veterans Recognition Day! These brave women answered the call serve, and it’s important that we honor them and the sacrifices they made for each and every one of us.

It’s vital we also acknowledge that barriers still existed even after its passage, like the 2% cap of women who could serve and the prohibition of full participation in combat, both of which were lifted years later.

Yesterday, I met with Jaybird Foundation President Cortney Marengo and Vice President Sam Engle for a tour of the Casselbury House in Lower Providence. The Jaybird Foundation’s mission is to restore historical buildings in our community and prepare them for reuse.

Pennsylvania is proud to share the legacy of Valley Forge National Historical Park, and I was glad to have Superintendent Rose Fennel and Director of Visitor & Community Engagement Adam Gresek in Harrisburg on Monday. Until 1976, Valley Forge was a state park—Pennsylvania's first

The PA legislature then agreed to “gift the park” to the federal government 50 years ago, where it became the 283rd unit of the National Park System and the only National Park to celebrate its birthday on the 4th of July.

We’re fortunate to have this incredible park right here in Montgomery County, and next month it will celebrate its 50th anniversary, right alongside America’s 250th! In the PA House this week, we adopted House Resolution 488, which officially celebrates Valley Forge’s 50th!

During my military service, I had the opportunity to work in the National Guard Bureau. I had a front row seat to watch our reservists—Guard and Reserve—transition from training at home to an operational force deployed across the globe.

Even at this very moment, we have Pennsylvania Guard serving in Africa and Europe. Hats off to them and to all of the members of the National Guard. We are extremely grateful for their service.
