Since January 20, too many of Donald Trump, Elon Musk and Republicans' actions have only served to break our government and hurt the American people. If you’ve been affected, please share your story here to help me best represent San Diego in Congress. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F…

Wildfire smoke kills almost 25,000 people each year - a public health and environmental emergency we must address. My Fix Our Forests Act (FOFA) would implement science-based solutions to lessen the severity and frequency of wildfires and make our communities more resilient. FOFA passed the House last year and I urge the Senate to pass the bill and the President to sign it as soon as possible. heatmap.news/adaptation/2026…

I look forward to the Aaron Price Fellows program’s visit to DC each year because I get to learn what motivated these students to get involved in this special program and talk to them about my path in public service. I know they’ll remain bright, dedicated members of their community!

Congress needs to find a long term solution for nuclear waste now; otherwise, nuclear facilities like SONGS in San Diego, which have been out of commission for 13 years, will continue posing a contamination risk to our servicemembers, our neighbors, and our oceans. My Nuclear REFUEL Act is the solution. It’s a bipartisan fix that finds alternative safe uses for nuclear waste, and it’s time it's passed by my committee. eenews.net/articles/californ…

As a proud representative of a coastal city, I know firsthand how illegal foreign fishing threatens our food supply, our fishers, and our oceans. Like my Caribbean and Latin America Maritime Security Initiative Act, the Stop Illegal Fishing Act I voted for would sanction vessel owners & crew conducting illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing here.
The House passed H.R. 6338 by voice vote.

The Clean Air Act made transformational advancements to protect our environment and public health, but it wasn't given to us by Moses on tablets. If Congress wants to modernize the law for today's challenges, we need to find ways to enforce violations while keeping American businesses competitive. I'm ready to work across the aisle on these common-sense reforms to protect San Diego and grow our economy. eenews.net/articles/whiff-of…

When the President said, "I don't think about Americans' financial situation," we should believe him. Everything is getting more expensive as his war-of-choice goes on.

Voter fraud is virtually nonexistent - and I have the receipts to prove it. Click the link in my bio to learn more about Republicans’ backwards efforts to suppress voters and what @AGRobBonta and I are doing to protect the fundamental right to vote.

From higher gas prices to higher energy bills, American families simply can’t afford President Trump’s reckless war in Iran. I can think of a lot of better ways to spend $100 billion that would make life easier and more affordable for Americans, not harder and less affordable.
$100 billion. That’s our estimate of the cost of the Iran War to American households. That’s nearly $750 per household. This includes the additional U.S. military costs and the higher energy and other prices resulting from the war. This is a big economic blow, but deficit-financed tax cuts have cushioned it. Until now. As of May 16th, the bigger tax refunds Americans have received this year no longer cover the higher costs of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel caused by the war. The financial pressure is thus mounting quickly, particularly on already hard-pressed middle and lower-income households. With the saving rate about as low as it ever goes, unless the war ends soon and energy prices come down, they will have little choice but to rein in their spending, weighing further on the already sagging economy.

Congratulations to @MayorToddGloria on being elected President of @usmayors. As cities are tackling housing affordability, public safety, and economic opportunity, I look forward to seeing him represent San Diego on a national stage and elevate practical solutions for communities across the country.
I’m honored to now serve as President of @usmayors. The first Mayor from San Diego and the first openly LGBTQ mayor to lead this national organization.  I'm using this platform to advance solutions that build more homes, keep neighborhoods safe, and expand opportunity.

We can make nuclear power more viable by recycling the fuel which reduces waste and air pollution. My REFUEL Act would invest in nuclear energy and allow operators to reuse spent fuel responsibly. That’s a win-win for clean energy and environmental and public health. Read more nuclear policy updates ⬇️ wsj.com/pro/sustainable-busi…

Today, we #WearOrange to honor the countless lives impacted by gun violence and to ensure we never stop working to end this preventable crisis. We do not have to live in fear of the next horrific mass shooting. We must ban assault weapons, expand background checks, and so much more to save lives.

Since taking office, President Trump has proven unable or unwilling to stand up to Putin. Today, Congress stepped in. I was glad to support the Ukraine Support Act to support the brave Ukrainians fighting against Russia’s illegal invasion. Ukraine’s success is vital to our national security.
WASHINGTON (AP) - House passes bill to aid Ukraine and sanction Russia in a sign of impatience with Trump's approach to the war.

Blocking the promotions of Naval officers who have earned them purely for political reasons isn’t just cruel. It weakens our military and dissuades young officers who strive for leadership. The Trump Administration must stop foolishly moving us backward. nytimes.com/2026/06/01/us/po…

Dismantling the Ocean Observatories Initiative means we will lose real-time data on sea level rise, ocean temperatures, and storm systems. This isn’t just a blow to San Diego. It will affect every coastal community in America. This is shortsighted, costly, and dangerous. nytimes.com/2026/06/01/clima…

San Diego isn't just a great place to live; it's a world-class hub for science and innovation. Researchers like Andrew Williams at UCSD are on the front lines of that work and keeping communities safe from extreme weather and climate events. But Trump is dismantling the institutions, and the decades of progress, that make this possible. Now more than ever, we can't let politics rewrite the facts.

Glad enough House Republicans finally joined us in passing a resolution to end the war in Iran. Now it's the Senate's turn. Both chambers must come together to rein in Trump's reckless war-of-choice before it costs American families everything they have left.

BREAKING: The House has adopted a resolution to rein in President Trump's Iran war powers for the first time since the start of the conflict, by a vote of 215-208. abcnews.link/sZ0NXxe

This is a big win for bipartisan permitting reform! The Geothermal Energy Advancement Act will make it easier to build clean, cost-effective geothermal energy projects and lower electricity bills for Americans. This isn’t about left vs right. This is about working together to solve problems. subscriber.politicopro.com/a…
