It’s official!! We just reintroduced H.R. 14, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, in the 119th Congress. 🙌🏾 As extremists work to make it harder for Americans to vote, House Democrats are taking action to ensure every eligible voter has access to the ballot box.

Today is #FosterYouthShadowDay on Capitol Hill and I’m thrilled to be joined by Monica Contreras from Sonoma County, CA! Monica is an amazing young leader with a passion for improving our foster care system and uplifting former foster youth. I am so inspired by her story and excited to have her here in Washington!

I just voted NO on Republicans' partisan budget bill. Alabama families need relief, not another blank check for ICE. This bill does nothing to lower costs, nothing to strengthen health care, and nothing to improve the lives of the people I represent. My full statement. 👇🏾

I believe Jeffery Lee's crimes were horrific, and he must be held accountable. I am also deeply troubled by Alabama's decision to proceed with his execution. Mr. Lee was not sentenced to death by a jury. Moreover, serious legal questions persist surrounding Alabama's use of nitrogen suffocation as a method of execution. I am respectfully urging Governor Ivey to commute Mr. Lee's sentence to life without parole. At the very least, she should pause this scheduled execution until the pending litigation has run its course. Read my my full statement. ⬇️ sewell.house.gov/2026/6/rep-…

62 years ago today, peaceful demonstrators in Tuscaloosa were met with with violence while demanding an end to segregation. Though often overlooked, the events of Bloody Tuesday remain a vital part of Alabama's—and America's—history. May we never forget the brave men and women who put their lives on the line in the name of equality. Their courage helped change our nation and reminds us that the fight for justice requires vigilance in every generation.

NEWS: The Orrville Public Library is officially open!!! 🎉 As the daughter of a librarian, this investment is especially meaningful to me. That's why I was honored to secure $500,000 in federal funding for its construction and donate a collection of books from the Library of Congress to help fill its shelves. Libraries open doors of opportunity, and I know this new space will serve and inspire the Orrville community for generations to come.

I was thrilled to join community members in celebrating the ribbon-cutting of the new U.S. Coast Guard training facility on the former Birmingham-Southern College campus. This is a tremendous opportunity for Birmingham, bringing new investment, jobs, and a strong future for this historic campus. Looking forward to all that's ahead!

All Americans should be alarmed when a handful of extremists can decide whose voices matter and whose do not.

I commend Derrick Coleman for taking a principled stand against Alabama's efforts to suppress Black representation. Our state cannot celebrate Black men on the playing field while denying them a voice in our democracy. We in Alabama have worked for decades to move beyond the stigma of our painful past. The rush to silence Black voters threatens to reverse that progress and put our state back on the wrong side of history.
Derrick Coleman declined his Mobile Sports Hall of Fame induction, saying he could not accept the honor while Black voters face diminished representation under newly approved congressional maps. More 👇

Finally! A bipartisan majority in the House just voted to rein in Trump’s reckless war of choice in Iran. Trump started this war with no authorization, no strategy, and no consideration of the cost to American families. I proudly voted to end this war and urge my Senate colleagues to do the same!
Unbelievable! The House was supposed to vote on a bill to end Trump’s war in Iran. But Republicans just canceled the vote! Why? Because they were afraid it would pass. Americans oppose this war. But Republicans would rather bend the knee to Trump than do what the people are demanding. We will continue pushing for a vote!

🚨 The Supreme Court just let Alabama Republicans change the rules and use a racist congressional map for this year’s midterm elections. It’s time for us to organize, mobilize, and vote like we’ve never voted before!
