A note to all care providers: There is NO mandate to report someone you suspect (or know) has self managed their abortion. In fact, it's in violation of privacy laws, antithetical public health and human rights frameworks and causes harm. #stopcallingthepoliceonpatients #donoharm

Patients’ lives should not be at the mercy of anti-abortion extremist lawmakers. Physicians have the knowledge and expertise to care for their patients and should be able to do so without fear. Josseli Barnica, Candi Miller, and Amber Thurman deserved better.

Josseli Barnica is one of at least two Texas women who ProPublica found have died after doctors delayed treating miscarriages, which are subject to the state’s strict abortion laws. propublica.org/article/josse…

Anyone who doesn’t understand this or says it isn’t true has never taken care of pregnant women from conception to delivery. They have no concept of the nuance, how many things can go wrong, and how often they DO go wrong. Pregnancy care isn’t possible without abortion access.

Without abortion, pregnancy is too dangerous to attempt. Building a family safely requires abortion. The reason pregnancy doesn’t kill more people is because OB/Gyns are good at their jobs. And abortion is part of the job.

Now that @opill_otc, the first-ever OTC birth control pill, is available on shelves & online across the US, we must ensure it is accessible. That means: âś… fully covered by insurance âś… low & no cost options âś… stocked nationwide w/o barriers #FreeThePill #WorldContraceptionDay

On #WorldContraceptionDay, we must remember that access to reproductive healthcare, including contraception, is a fundamental right—not a privilege. We must address inequities in access AND give people everything they need to decide if, when, and how they have their families.

The horror of the US criminal punishment system isn’t only that it wrongfully imprisons and kills innocent people. It is that it imprisons and kills regardless of guilt or innocence. It is designed to uphold power, not morality.

Health care providers are still unable to provide standard medical care in states with abortion bans, according to our new Care Post-Roe report. "Medical care for pregnant people has become dangerously warped." - @DrDGrossman. Read the full report. ⬇️ ansirh.org/CarePostRoeReport

Abortion ban “exceptions” aren’t intended to work in practice, because no part of an abortion ban is about keeping patients safe or healthy. The laws are confusing, chaotic and designed to make people afraid of providing and seeking out abortion care. Decriminalize abortion. Now.

We don’t need an abortion policy that makes abortion technically legal. We need an abortion policy that invests in abortion, a policy that breaks down prevents barriers to care.   We need abortion policy that makes abortion possible for all people, everywhere, no matter what.

Why do Republicans keep bringing up abortions in the “ninth month”? Beyond them not wanting to have a real conversation about the barriers they put in place to make it difficult for people to get abortions, pushing care later into pregnancy, it’s about disgust. I explain! #Debate

Whether you draw a line at 6 weeks, 15 weeks, 20 weeks, or 24 weeks ― there’s no point in a pregnancy that the government is better positioned to make decisions about your health than you are.

Abortion restrictions and bans not making sense is a feature, not a bug. They are about control and nothing else.
