Sinn Féin Poblachtach Ciarraí held the annual Gortaglanna Commemoration today, marking the 105th anniversary of the murder of three unarmed IRA Volunteers, Jerry Lyons, Paddy Walsh and Paddy Dalton by the Black and Tans on the 12th May 1921. The main oration was delivered by Seán Scott Leas-Uachtarán Sinn Féin Poblachtach.
The three Volunteers, along with Con Dee, were stopped on their way home from Mass by a Black and Tan patrol near Gortaglanna, Knockanure, North Kerry. They were unarmed, carrying nothing but their rosary beads. The Tans beat them and marched them into a nearby field, where they were lined up and executed. Con Dee made a desperate run for his life and, despite being shot in the leg, managed to escape.
Sinn Féin Poblachtach remembers them with pride.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha.
