'A data investigation by The House has revealed a rise in violence against women and girls despite Labour’s 2024 pledge to halve it.' politicshome.com/news/articl… 'The Labour government is on a mission to halve violence against women and girls (VAWG) in the next 10 years – one of its most ambitious manifesto policies at the last general election. Yet since 2024 VAWG has actually increased in the UK – despite a downward trend before that.'

#holdalljudgestoaccount @RippleStarterUK Well done you for persevering 👏👏💪🏻
This week, Panorama revealed further allegations made against David Sullivan. As I said in 2024 on this, the UK needs comprehensive anti-SLAPPs legislation. The law is too often misused by the wealthy and powerful to silence survivors:

The last sighting of Melanie Hall, 25, was inside a nightclub in Bath 30 years ago - now police have launched a fresh appeal. independent.co.uk/news/uk/cr… 'Her disappearance sparked a major police operation, but 13 years later, in 2009, her body was discovered wrapped in bin bags beside the M5 motorway. Police have made 11 arrests, but no-one has ever been charged with her murder.' 'For Melanie’s family – her parents Steve and Pat, and sister Dominique – the anguish over what happened to her, and why, will continue until justice is done.' 'The anniversary of Melanie’s death will see Avon and Somerset Police launch the Justice for Melanie campaign, which aims to take people back to the month of her disappearance in an attempt to trigger details or memories. Messages will be displayed on the digital screen during the match between Bath Rugby and Leicester Tigers on Saturday, while advertising will appear on a van travelling around the city, and on businesses and council services.'

Replying to @ResoluteSupport
@ResoluteSupport read the piece from Debbie Jones on the resignations of ministers key to VAWG . Well said , and totally agree- politicians only concerned with themselves not the people and roles they represent

Without repercussions the victims code is redundant. You need to be able to hold agencies to account if they don’t uphold the law.
The Victims’ Code promises rights but too often fails in reality. Poor awareness, weak enforcement, and no accountability mean victims are still being let down. My blog consultation response set out what must change ⬇️

'Only 3% of suicides related to domestic abuse in England and Wales in the past five years have resulted in any sort of prosecution.' theguardian.com/uk-news/2026… 'In most cases, alleged perpetrators were not investigated for their role in a partner’s suicide or any possible abuse prior to their death. In some, existing inquiries into domestic abuse were closed without explanation after the alleged victim’s death.' '@CommissionerDA Nicole Jacobs, the domestic abuse commissioner for England and Wales, said there had been “tolerance of way too much variance” between forces after suicides related to domestic abuse, with “not enough inquisitive investigation measures” being applied in some areas at the early stages of an inquiry."' 'Asked if the loved ones of victims were facing a postcode lottery in their quests for justice, Jacobs said: “Exactly right.” She added that the low number of prosecutions was “hugely concerning” because domestic abuse was “highly repetitive”.'
