Lille president Olivier Létang will be smiling after watching Ayyoub Bouaddi against Brazil. It was rumored that he wanted €70m to sell him. Now, he will definitely want more. That was an outstanding performance. Strasbourg's Mourabet was also very good when he came on. I don't think Mourabet is worse than Bouaddi, but they are just different profiles. Bouaddi is more of a ball-carrying central midfielder, while Mourabet is more like a deep conductor. The amount of top talent that country is producing at the moment is crazy, and I love their style of football. They actually outplayed a whole Brazil. That says a lot.

Chelsea didn’t spend money on Gittens for “year 1”. If you watched him, he was never ready to be a starter immediately. It’s why I was so disappointed we missed out on a star attacker to cover him in the meantime last summer. They jumped the gun and went early to try and anticipate a potential £80/90M player pre-explosion like they nearly did for Barcola at Lyon (& likes of Wharton, Samu, Olise, Doue, Jacquet etc). This time they didn’t want to fail. Bayern, Liverpool etc were all linked too. I hoped for more, but it would be stupid to write him off in year one, when a shaky start was always possible. Especially in a dysfunctional year where we came 10th. Hato should’ve taught many a lesson. Fans were trying to run jokes and write off a 19 year old kid in his first few months like they’re new to watching football. Rookie stuff. Hate for the club, blinding people to basic objectivity at times. Don’t again act shocked if Gittens takes off at some point next season...
