Loneliness spreads like a virus. In this network map of an entire town, each dot represents someone who is either socially connected (yellow) or lonely (green/blue). Researchers found that loneliness isn’t just personal, but spreads like a disease. If one person became lonely, their friends were 52% more likely to feel lonely too. Your emotions don’t exist in isolation. They’re part of a social ecosystem.

Overall, young people in some countries are more unhappy than their parents for the first time in basically all of history. This is mostly seen in Canada, Australia, China, and some parts of Europe.
The recent decline in young adult happiness is concentrated among the unmarried. But fewer and fewer young adults are getting married.

The male loneliness epidemic is also not a political issue, but rather a social one. Both genders tend to view the other side as irrational and even disgusting, which deepens the disconnect. Unless we come together now, the divide is only going to widen.

Despite broad attempts to lambast young men for the “male loneliness epidemic”, studies continuously show women have become radicalized, not men. Even conservatives patronize and demand more from young men, all while women offer less and want more. Follow: @AFpost

One downside of using AI is that I find I have to do a double take when people send me emails. AI yaps for so long I often just glance over what it sends, but now I find myself having to not skim over someone's email asking me when I'm free to meet.

My favorite thing I learned today is that medieval monks drew battles of them fighting rabbits in the margins of their manuscripts. Can someone tell me why they do this?

There's no way to avoid the midlife crisis. But is there a way to avoid blowing your life savings on a motorcycle? 🧵 below:

Some of the decline is physical. That sports car may look awesome in your neighbor’s driveway, but it’s a good sign his only physical activity is opening the car door. If you stop exercising in your midlife, you'll be more unhappy now and when you're older.

I'm not saying you'll avoid the midlife crisis entirely. But you can avoid losing your marriage and life savings to a Porsche 911.

Windows could save your life. But it's not just the window: having access to nature is crucial to human wellbeing. Hospital patients with windows looking at nature recovered faster and needed less pain meds. And prisoners with a view of nature had lower depression than those looking at concrete/walls.
Sitting by a window is associated with significantly improved cognitive performance.

Why is therapy so bad for kids? The federal government has spent billions on therapy for our kids. Yet that same therapy makes our kid's mental health worse. Here are the three reasons why:
1

2) Co-rumination. Therapists aren't around 24/7, so they tell their teen patients to talk to their peers about their problems. But this doesn't help. Teens have a bad habit of engaging in co-rumination, where teens "hype" each other up about how bad their problems are.

3) It works against action. Therapy lets kids vent their emotions, but is rarely put into helpful action. Your kid may discuss his emotions, but emotionally he's "spinning his wheels" In order for therapy to be effective, it needs to be actionable. What do you think?

Nothing benefits young men more than marriage. One of greatest myths of today's society is that married men are stuck in marriage. Married men are the happiest cohort of men, live longer, and are 30% less likely to die early.
News flash for the manosphere: married dads report the happiest, most meaningful lives of any men. cc @RationalMale @Cobratate @pearlythingz

What shocking research have you found? Here's mine: Your mind distorts reality to help you get what you want. When people were on a diet, their brain's tricked them to see unhealthy food as bigger than they actually were. This made resisting bad food harder, and as a result more people broke their diets. TL;DR: your mind will change how you see things so you can make excuses for what you want. What cool research have you found? Drop it below!

I have spent all day doing useless things with my friends. Me and three of my friends have been working on a writing project together. It is absolutely useless and will amount to nothing. But it makes me so happy to be able to do meaningless things. A lot of people have become so obsessed on productivitymaxxing that they don't do anything other than trying to be productive. If you haven't done something useless this week it's probably a good sign you aren't thriving.
