Funded by growers & the Australian Gov through @AgriFuturesAU to support the adoption of innovation, research & development outcomes in the Aus rice industry.
We recently checked in with Neville and Brooke Hollins, our CY22 SunRice Grower of the Year recipients to get their thoughts on the award.
As Brooke says, each grower has a story to tell, and it’s a story WORTH telling.
We highly encourage you to get a nomination in before they close Friday 12 June.
It’s as simple as filling in a form on our website ➡️riceextension.com.au/sunrice…#RiceExtension#sunricegroweroftheyear#australianriceindustry#RiceGrowers
Every season, there are growers who try something new, improve a system, solve a problem or find a better way of doing things.
Most won’t talk about it.
That’s where the people around them come in.
If you’ve worked alongside a grower whose efforts deserve recognition, consider nominating them for the SunRice Grower of the Year Award.
Because some of the best stories in Australian rice are still waiting to be told.
Nominations close 12 June.

This is what the birds see when they fly over the Trial Sites at RAAPL
Using plots at RAAPL allows us to test different practices and varieties to see what variables actually make the difference.
If you look closely you can see the gaps where samples have been taken for analysis.

So who benefits from benchmarking?
Growers get detailed insights through Rice Extension’s Annual Summary, helping them see how their results compare to others.
Researchers and industry organisations use the data to identify opportunities for improvement, investment and more productive farming practices.
By sharing your data, you help make benchmarking more accurate and valuable, supporting better outcomes for everyone in the rice industry.

Jae, one of our Murray Valley Extension Officers has also been in on the mission to collect samples for analysis the last month.
There's been plenty of long, hot days in paddocks taking different types of cuts for the lab to process.
For growers in the area, you may hear from Jae regarding your 22% moisture sample and season data over the next few weeks.

Driving around the Riverina you can see the transition of rice crops throughout the season, from the telltale ponded paddocks to vibrant green fields that soon change to golden.
But once you get in the paddock the view shifts slightly, from even rows to individual grains, farmers see things in the plants that most people wouldn't.

We want to take a moment to recognise that the paddocks are looking like this thanks to the hard work of our local rice growers.
We wish everyone a safe and successful harvest season!

The Rice Extension team are spending plenty of time in the paddock at the moment collecting samples and checking crop progress, helping to build a clearer picture of how the season is shaping up across the region.
