United Airlines CEO, Scott Kirby, says a merger with American will create a "truly great airline that customers love." United's EVP on a conference call five days ago on higher ticket prices. "The longer the price of fuel remains in this range, and the longer consumers pay these prices and airlines get used to this revenue stream, the more likely it is to stick. That's the simple perspective on it." Huh

It seems strange that the Allbirds $BIRD executive team hasn't been doing interviews lately. Wouldn't they want to explain how they are transforming from a shoe company to an AI computing powerhouse? @convictionhold joined me on "This Time is Different" to talk about it.

It just seems odd that the Allbirds $bird CEO's LinkedIn profile now takes you to a 404 error page. Huh.

Hundreds of millions of dollars were bet on the price of oil declining just a few minutes President Trump announced that America would not bomb Iranian infrastructure in late March. That's just one suspicious futures trade that came before a Truth social post. Anyway, my latest story for "The Indicator from Planet Money" is about sus trades and how regulators could look into it.

A few weeks ago, I met a Pokémon collector at the Denver Card Show. He just bought a Mega Charizard for $1,750 cash. Don't mind the price tag. A few days ago, that same card sold on eBay for $2,800. Pokémon is one of the hottest speculative booms right now. Why? I've got a whole podcast about it on "The Indicator from Planet Money."

You pay a "security fee" on any flight that leaves a US airport. It's meant to fund the TSA. Travelers are still paying this fee, but TSA workers aren't getting paid. So what gives? I've got a whole story about this tax, and what it's like to be a TSA worker right now, for "The Indicator from Planet Money."

The gambling industry is out of control
Last year, The Atlantic gave me $10K to gamble with. What started as a journalistic gimmick turned into something more... unnerving. My cover story on the online betting boom warping sports, culture, politics, and the psyches of millions of young men: theatlantic.com/magazine/202…

America is great already.
Meanwhile, in America. Police raided rapper Afroman’s house. They didn’t charge him with anything, but they trashed his home and stole $400. He captured the raid on CCTV. He then dropped diss tracks roasting them. They sued him for defamation, and he won.

My latest story for The Indicator from Planet Money is about the economic cost of the war in Iran, and why the expenses go far beyond the daily estimates you've seen in the news. Two things that stood out to me. 1) The amount of accrued disability benefits owed to veterans (not counting healthcare) is $7.3 trillion. 2) The peak year for paying World War I Veterans Benefits was in 1969. npr.org/2026/03/18/nx-s1-575…
