Helpful reminders: • Never play or walk on or around railroad tracks • Obey all warning signs and signals • Always wait until lights stop flashing or gates are fully raised before crossing • Always check for a second train • Never place objects on tracks.

Railroad crossings are equipped with several audible, visual, and physical safety features designed to help prevent collisions. From flashing lights and bells to crossing gates and pavement markings, every feature serves a purpose.

Did you know railroad crossing gates are designed to break away during an emergency? If your vehicle is ever stuck on the tracks and the gates begin to lower, drive forward, even if it means breaking the gate, to move out of the path of an approaching train.
