As we commemorate the #InternationalDayoftheAfricanChild, we are reminded that access to clean water, safe sanitation, and proper hygiene is not only a basic right but also a foundation for children's well-being, learning, protection, and development. At Right To Play Uganda, we recognize that children cannot fully participate in education or enjoy the benefits of play when they are affected by poor sanitation, waterborne diseases, or inadequate hygiene facilities. Through our work in schools and communities, we support safe, inclusive, and child-friendly learning environments where children can learn, play, and develop the skills they need to thrive.

Play is how children learn. Through play, children build reading and communication skills. Yet play is still undervalued in many homes and schools. Protecting play protects learning. Let’s make play a priority. #PlayChangesEverything #IDOP2026

Nearly 1 in 5 girls in Uganda miss school during menstruation due to stigma and lack of menstrual products. We’re using play-based learning and Menstrual Hygiene Clubs to break taboos, teach menstrual health, and help girls manage menstruation with dignity. #MenstrualHygieneDay

Displacement shouldn’t mean the end of learning. Millions of children face interrupted education, unsafe environments & limited resources. With play-based learning, we can help them reconnect, rebuild confidence, and keep learning no matter the circumstances. #RightToPlay

"Sport includes any physical activity; every time we move our bodies and assert ourselves, we're participating in sport. This activity releases happy hormones like oxytocin and dopamine. When these hormones are balanced, they make you feel good. That's why sport can be transformative. Remember, consistency is key in all sports. Sports can be solo or group; you gain more benefits with others, it’s better together. Any sport works as long as you move your body in different directions."
