The first person to do the football gag was actually Violet Gray not Lucy, though she pulls her hand away out of fear, not the ball as a prank like Lucy does.
This comic with Violet was from November 14, 1951. Lucy would do the gag a year later in November of 1952 and popularize it as the prank we all know
