My first reflection from ResearchED East Anglia focuses on @Counsell_C 's keynote on story, attention and memory. I’ve been thinking about what this means in my own context as a geographer: the texture of geography, narrative, memory and the danger of overly generic lesson structures. @ATTInstitute @researchED1 robgeogchambers.substack.com… #ResearchED #geographyteacher #geography #stories #educhat

Me too - wrote that straight down - so true! :)
Replying to @EmathsUK
Love this from @Counsell_C: Writing lesson objectives on the board at the start of a lesson is like telling the punchline of a joke, before telling the joke

My final session of the day at #rEDEastAnglia was with @CatScutt considering the use of AI in education. Catt posed lots of interesting points for reflection and it sparked more questions for me to follow up through my own use and research of AI. @ATTInstitute @researchED1

My fourth session was with the fantastic @MrsBallAP from @Steplab_co looking at the importance of and strategies for scaffolding whilst avoiding lethal mutations by staying true to subject specificity in their application and in a way that doesn’t provide a ceiling - keeping ambition high for all and is gradually removed. Can highly recommend Rachel and @lamb_heart_tea book - The Scaffolding Effect (@Inner_Drive) @researchED1 @ATTInstitute #rEDEastAnglia

#rEDEastAnglia kicked off with the amazing @Counsell_C so much to think about here in particular for me the negative impact that trying to impose a single lesson structure across subjects can have and how important narrative is. Lots of unpacking of my thoughts on this to do! A great start to the day. #rED @ATTInstitute @researchED1

Shared curriculum resources are only as strong as teachers’ understanding of them. In this 3-part series, I explore Intellectual Preparation: why it matters, what it looks like in geography, and how schools can protect it from becoming another compliance exercise. So the #NationalFestivalofFieldwork through @The_GA is underway & very soon, every Y7 student at Future Academies will undertake their first piece of KS3 fieldwork to look at the flood risk to their school. Rationale resources top tips: katestockings.com/geographic…

Great to see @astreaacademies in this list. ✅4th for A8 ✅3rd for Basics 5 ✅4th for Basics 4 We've got much more to do our journey, but it's good to see this.
Which MATs are the best at improving schools? I've added a Sponsorship page to my KS4 Dashboard to find out

My latest substack post is a personal reflection on curriculum booklets: what they can do well, what needs to sit around them, and the potential pitfalls to avoid. Booklets can support curriculum coherence, intellectual preparation, non-specialist teaching and workload — but only when used thoughtfully. open.substack.com/pub/robgeo… #geographyteacher #curriculumdesign #KS3 #bookletisedcurriculum
