The creator of Ruby on Rails is all in on AI...but that doesn't mean he's rushing to build it into the framework just yet. On the newest On Rails, @DHH joins @robbyrussell to talk Rails, the Basecamp 5 launch, and AI-assisted development: "It is a professional obligation of every programmer to take this revolution seriously." Curious where Rails is headed? Listen or watch the full episode on YouTube (link in thread). podcast.rubyonrails.org/2462…

I’m fairly certain I receive 9x more cold emails from companies selling outbound sales software than from companies offering services I’d genuinely consider buying. Make of that what you will.

A good reminder that there’s a difference between helping people who have a problem and complain about it… and helping complainers who happen to have a problem.
I talked to a founder today whose customers are all really nice people, because their initial market happens to be one that attracts such people. The founders themselves are nice for the same reason. They're enjoying starting a startup as much as any founders I've known.

Saw these at a coffee shop earlier in the year... but didn't buy it at the time... but was interested enough to add the pottery maker's name to my notes app. Mine now! wolfceramics.com/products/th…

Thrilled that Oh My Posh has joined the @commitgoods club! The work that @jandedobbeleer has done to bring more CLI delight has been great to watch. Looking forward to getting my own shirt soon. :-)

The 2026 Rails Survey has responses from developers in over 30 countries so far. The US is leading, but Germany, Canada, the UK, Brazil, and France aren't far behind. Rails is a global community. The survey should reflect that. Add your perspective! bit.ly/49z1pam

"During early testing, Stripe reported that Fable 5 compressed months of engineering into days. In a 50-million-line Ruby codebase, the model performed a codebase-wide migration in a day that would otherwise have taken a whole team over two months by hand."

This is a bullshit take. People have been happily installing software from sources they trust for decades. We clicked installers, dragged apps into folders, added package repositories, ran shell scripts, installed browser extensions, and approved OS prompts without reading a fucking thing. The idea that curl | bash suddenly represents a moral failing is hilarious. A single command that downloads, configures, and installs software is an incredible achievement. We should appreciate that more often! Ultimately, every install is a trust exercise; we’ve just invented different UIs for it.
Can we PLEASE for the love of all that his holy STOP NORMALIZING THIS INSTALL METHOD

A year ago, we released Ghost in the Mountain. Thanks to everyone who’s listened, bought a record, come to a show, or told a friend about the band. We put together a little thank-you this weekend: GHOST1YEAR for 15% off.
One year ago, Ghost in the Mountain found its way into the world. Thank you for every listen, vinyl order, show attendance, playlist add, and recommendation to a friend.

I found myself revisiting 43 Folders today. Back in 2005, @hotdogsladies had a huge impact on how I approached work. Not just productivity… but attention, commitments, creative projects, and all the stuff that piles up around them. Made me wonder… For younger folks, who’s your Merlin Mann?

In the 60s, an eccentric behavioral psychologist named James McConnell pureed a bunch of worms and fed them to other worms. For years after, he claimed that the cannibal worms learned the ground-up worms’ memories. Could he have been… right? quantamagazine.org/are-memor…
