No "After Hours" this Sunday. New shows fill vaunted 5-7 pm slot. WGN would like to continue its long relationship with me and explained how a podcast of the show would allow for uninterrupted interviews and give me more flexibility. So much to learn before we launch or crash.

Thanks, Robert Chiarito.
Forty years ago, and after much hype, little was discovered inside Al Capone's purported vault at the Lexington Hotel. Instead, it may have pried open Americans’ love of reality TV. chicagomag.com/city-life/wha…

With fresh energy and experimental desire, Chicago opened its heart to the world in 1986. That magical year helped shape America’s landscape. newcity.com/2026/03/18/1986-…

Thank you, @RickKogan.
For decades the three major networks had a monopoly on news. That has been broken for keeps and new guy Tony Dokoupil is making an awkward start in the CBS anchorman chair once held by "the most trusted man in America." chicagotribune.com/2026/02/0…

One Sun-Times legend, @LynnSweet, remembers another — our treasured colleague Basil Talbott Jr.
Basil Talbott Jr., the legendary Chicago Sun-Times political editor, chief political columnist and Washington correspondent, known for his punchy authoritative coverage and analysis, died Wednesday. He was 89. chicago.suntimes.com/news/20…

Tony Dokoupil's bizarre Minneapolis monologue, in which he spoke for 90 seconds and found nothing to say, caps a week of blunders that suggest his approach to the job is one prolonged ego trip. New, from me: variety.com/2026/tv/columns/…

In a brief both-sides-are-equal “report” on #January6th at end of @CBSEveningNews, anchor said: “Pres. Trump accused Dems of failing to prevent the attack; Hakeem Jeffries accused Trump of whitewashing it.” SHAMEFUL! My family watched CBS & Cronkite from 1963 on. No more. Sadly, “That’s the way it is, January 6th, 2026.”

.@tonydokoupil It's not that you tanked on your first broadcast. Mistakes happen. It's that you chose the day before your debut to say you would be better than Walter Cronkite. It's stupid, frat boy cocky and consistent with a series of embarrassing fuck ups from @bariweiss.

This is crazy. Cronkite regularly engaged his critics - look up the history. When Spiro Agnew attacked him, Cronkite went to St. Joseph, Missouri, his hometown, and held a town hall where his critics questioned him and CBS News, and it was broadcast on "60 Minutes."
Tony Dokoupil, who begins Monday as anchor of the CBS Evening News, tells a critical commentator on Instagram: "I can promise you we’ll be more accountable and more transparent than Cronkite or any one else of his era."

Outstanding, important report by @RoederDavid.
The nonprofit owner of the Chicago Sun-Times and WBEZ paid its outgoing CEO more than $900,000 in 2024, new tax filings show, as it engaged in staff cuts and other measures to deal with declining revenue. chicago.suntimes.com/work/20…
