Where it gets into overkill/sensationalism territory is claiming that it “just matters more in New York”
Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, LA, Atlanta, Indy, Detroit - any of these cities breaking a major title drought would unite the city and be a big deal. That’s what makes sports special!
It’s not unique to New York. There’s just more people there.
