Since I’ve got some new people on my page—welcome!—it’s probably a good time to once again mention my books. The Case Files of the Rocky Mountain Paranormal Research Society books are haunted histories and reports from open minded but skeptical paranormal investigations. Arithmophobia is an anthology of mathematically inspired horror stories. In the Woods is an anthology of horror and fantasy in woodland settings. A little something for everyone. Hope y’all enjoy!

I hesitate to speak too soon, but today seems like a good day. I woke up this morning to an X feed full of video of the Sagrada Familia. The horror movie award program I'm a juror for just accepted my ballot. And my father, at least so far, seems to be having the first relatively comfortable day during his hospitalization. May it continue more like this into the future! 🕯️

...and it just doesn't stop! Y'all...pray for me...I need it.
Replying to @Catholic_bro
Be careful, though. I prayed a Litany of Humility a few months ago and God humbled me more than I expected!

My publishing house just received the following: "Hi, this is my script. Publish it if you will. I've been published before as a poet, but I am completely unknown. Thanks" For the record, we're currently closed to submissions. Even if we were open, this one would go straight into the circular file. Don't be rude.

I had a bad phone call this morning. I prayed a rosary because I couldn't think what else to do. I had a good phone call this afternoon. Some may say coincidence, and I can't prove otherwise...but frankly my ghast is flabbered that I got good news rather than bad in that second call. 🕯️

Requesting prayers again! Some of you know bits and pieces of what's going on and some don't know anything. Probably no one outside the family quite knows the extent of it all (by design) but I need all the help I can get! 🕯️

It’s the Monday after Fan Expo Denver. Most people consider this a day of rest and recovery. I’m off to visit my father in hospital and then pack for another conference next weekend. 🕯️

See how much I love y'all? I got up early enough to get this video unboxing of what I got this month from Night Worms posted before I have to leave for the day! Y'all know where to find it: 👇

Well, I’m up at 4am, getting ready to drop my father off at hospital to start his cancer treatment and then zip across town to exhibit with Rocky Mountain Paranormal at Fan Expo Denver. It’s going to be a long and busy day! 🕯️

Apparently there's some controversy about some people on "BookTok" only reading dialogue and skipping the rest of a book. I try to stay out of controversies like this because it's bad for my blood pressure...but I have such a temptation to write a book in which all the dialogue is just people talking about differential equations and the entire story takes place in the description. 🕯️

I love my slow cooker. But the evil thing about it is that it forces me to smell my cooking all day while it's down there simmering away in the kitchen and I can't eat it yet! 🕯️

When we encounter arguments on social media, sometimes it is well that we should remember something Churchill once said. In the middle of a speech, he said, "and of course I do not want to cast my pearls before...." here he paused, waiting for them to be angry at being called swine, then continued "...those who do not want them." 🕯️

Here's your annual Memorial Day reminder that this holiday isn't about a three-day weekend, nor is it about BBQ. Today is to remember and honor those who gave their lives so the rest of us can have the privilege to enjoy such things as three-day weekends and BBQs. 🇺🇸🕯️

Pope Leo XIV's first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas, has been published. I haven't read the whole thing yet--it's substantial and I'm overwhelmingly busy this week--but he opens by comparing our technology to two great engineering projects from the Scriptures: the Tower of Babel and the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem. Our technology is a good, he seems to be saying, if it is oriented toward human flourishing, but it becomes an evil when in our hubris we build something that controls us rather than the other way around. Expect in the coming days that many people and many news articles will misrepresent this document or quote it out of context. But it's available for free on the Vatican's website in multiple languages. Go read it for yourself! 🕯️

Am I losing my mind or does X occasionally repost something to our pages these days that we only liked but never actually reposted? Couple times now I've gotten a notification someone liked my repost...on something I have no memory of reposting. 🕯️

I've come to the conclusion that no one should ever receive a high school diploma who hasn't read Frankl's book, Man's Search for Meaning (and written an essay demonstrating mastery of its ideas). It could legitimately be one of the greatest things we can do for our mental health crisis. If its ideas helped many of the Holocaust survivors get through one of the worst horrors in human history, surely they could also help the average comfortable American get through the average Monday. 🕯️
