Just when you think you've seen it all with #referee abuse, something like this happens. A young official, learning the game, assaulted by a grown man. This is absolutely shocking and shows why more needs to be done around the safety of young officials. This shouldn't happen!

For any #sportsofficials #referees #matchofficials and #umpires as well as any sports federations and governing bodies - 'Managing and Developing Sports Officials' will be published in early summer. It is aims to bridge the gap between research and practice for sports officials.

So happy to hear a talk from @RobynBate about Match Officials & #MentalHealth. The presentation was engaging & challenged our students to bring their brains to class. I loved the exercise asking students to design an intervention to improve the mental health of match officials.

Transparent reporting of these figures @EnglandFootball. It's concerning that allegations of serious misconduct are up 9% on the 2021-22 season as are allegations of serious offences against a match official. This is a global problem that needs attention.

Football has an abuse problem. Particularly when it comes to referees, abuse is ingrained in the culture & accepted as 'just part of the job'. Referee abuse is detrimental to not only the individual, but also the sport (no ref, no football). #EnoughIsEnough
