I could never quite get my head around W' being a fixed parameter. Human physiology is far too complex for such simple frameworks 🤔
The European Journal of Applied Physiology reports that cyclists maintained higher work output above critical power when work rate was reduced prior to failure. This challenges the notion of W′ as a fixed parameter, showing adaptability in performance. bit.ly/4oDUDFX

1/ Interval training is a cornerstone of endurance performance. We often stick to stock standard session design, but new research highlights various manipulations to maximise the adaptive stimulus, from interval duration & intensity to recovery dynamics. #HIIT #SportsScience 🧵👇

14/ Terrain inclines: Uphill intervals (e.g. 5-10% grade) recruit more muscle & raise VO2. This can boost T>90% vs. flat intervals at similar intensities, ideal for runners & cyclists to further enhance gains 🏔️

15/ There are many tools in the toolbox to augment the training stimulus. The trick is knowing which tools to use—how & when—for each athlete given their physiological profile, to truly maximise n=1 performance potential 🔎🧬 #Running #Cycling #Swimming #Rowing #Triathlon
