Two things trip us up with this kind of thing. 1. Biggest issue is that state borders don't track well with cultural borders, 2. The cultural aspects that are easy to analyze on paper don't always correspond to the feel of the locations.
This may be a hot take, but following many travels, I've determined that THIS is the Midwest.
Dakotas are amazing, but are nothing like the Midwest.
Missouri feels more like a Southern state than Midwest.
Kentucky is more like Tennessee and Virginia than the Midwest.

- Take CO, even just the city of Denver, which in the popular imagination is a mountain city like SLC, UT. If you stand in the center of Denver and face North, the Rockies are in your left peripheral. To the right is desolate plains and not a mountain until you hit the Ozarks

- Cincinnati - It's in OH (Midwest) but feels like a middle ground b/t the South and Midwest in terms of landscape, and it borders KY. KY is quintessentially Scots-Irish, but in mid 19th c. 30% of Cincy spoke German and schools offered teaching in English or German. So idk man.

The Nowak family made a powerful call to us all yesterday to not let Henry’s death be used to create further division, hatred or tension.
There can be no justification for hijacking this tragedy to stir up violence and disorder. Those responsible can expect to face the full force of the law.
I thank the police who have tonight shown great bravery and calm in the face of disgraceful violence directed at them.
