Could we, without relentlessly criticizing, let people have their pumpkin spice, and avacado toast, and their fandoms, and their D&D, and their too-early-Halloween-decorations, and whatever little harmless things in which they’ve manage to find a tiny shriveled flower of joy?

“I’m very concerned that our society is much more concerned with information than wonder, in noise rather than silence. How do we encourage reflection? … Oh my, this is a noisy world.”

In the words of Will Stenberg: This is not a time to be dismayed, this is punk rock time. This is what Joe Strummer trained you for.

This is one of those days when you’d hope there was a grownup in the room to offer some kind of reassurance. I’ve tried to be that grownup for people as often as I could. But not today. Today I looked and saw that I had nothing to offer anybody but my own confusion.

Marzetti Thousand Island dressing tastes like candied tartar sauce and I’m sad nobody loved me enough to tell me.

Three years later, what can I say? Time flies when you’re… gesturing broadly at everything?

I’ve just dropped by to say that Brendan Fraser is a lovely human and I wish so many more good things for him. Do it, universe. You owe me.

My youngest, holding a box of macaroni I’ve just brought home from the store: *gasp* daddy, you know what we should make for dinner tonight? Ribs.

Look, I’ve lived half my life already and I’ve just gotten good at frying an egg in a cast iron pan. Don’t be so hard on yourself.

I’ve just learned that Joanne Rogers has shaken off this mortal coil. Perhaps she’s together with Fred once more, having a good laugh. I have my hopes. May the souls of all the faithful departed, by the mercy of God, rest in peace.

You know, over these past years I’ve tried very hard to make sure I could be proud of my interactions here. I’ve worked to be be, on balance, positive and uplifting in my little messages, though my conscience hasn’t allowed me to be always that way. I hope that shows through.

For my part, I’m pretty happy to let these messages stand and be my record if anybody in future were to ever wonder who that internet nobody was. Not perfect, to be sure, but I’m glad I tried. I really hope you can feel the same way about yours (even if it means deleting a few).
