Due to an alignment of old accounts, I can no longer access this space on my computer. I'm here on my phone to say I guess I was done anyway. Might delete. Might just go silent. I'm back on LinkedIn, & my Uni Melb & Deakin email addresses will remain functional for at least 2025

Such a joy (and *complete surprise*) that we ended up with universities committing to not give advance notice of casual work, rather than say, committing to opening more level A and B roles. What do we next, @NTEUnion ?

Celebrating Assoc Prof Anna Halafoff's recent election, along with Prof Yin Paradies, as Fellows to the Australian Academy of the Humanities (AAH). Congratulations on this acknowledgement of your exemplary leadership!
We are pleased to advise that today our Fellows elected 41 distinguished humanities scholars and practitioners into the Australian Academy of the Humanities: bit.ly/3ZeFD71 Among them are freedom rider activist Gary Williams, distinguished theatre director Professor Julian Meryick, Roman historian Professor Tim Parkin, expert in decision-making Professor Katie Steele and award-winning poet Professor Sarah Holland-Batt. The Academy’s new Fellows represent those who have left an indelible mark on their field, and a groundbreaking contribution to our understanding of societies and culture. Election to the Academy is the highest honour within the humanities. Not @SenatorWong now trying to act like some moral expert saying how terrible the UNRWA ban is because they do "life saving work".. like... why are the lives needing saving, Penny? Who is out there destroying Palestinian lives, Penny? Who is it?

BREAKING: At this very moment, the Israeli military is massacring family after family in North Gaza in a war of extermination. So hundreds of Jews and friends are shutting down the New York Stock Exchange to demand the US stop arming Israel and profiting from genocide.

had some eye tests today (some bulk billed, one scan not) and ordered glasses (partially covered by insurance) and well, it really is just another reminder not to be sick and not to be poor in this neoliberal world

Hard to watch the Foreign Minister have a go at this today. “That’s the most progressive policy is it, you hold up a sign?” Penny, with respect, the policy is on the sign. Let’s go.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled in January that third states - like Australia - must take concrete measures like sanctions and arms embargoes to prevent Israel's ongoing genocide in Gaza. The ICJ Advisory Opinion on Israel's illegal occupation and apartheid in Palestine again advised in July that countries like Australia impose sanctions on this rogue state. And the UN General Assembly passed a resolution in September urging countries like Australia to implement sanctions against Israel. Thank you to Greens Senators for making a stand in the Senate today, and continuing to demand that Australia meets its international legal obligations by imposing sanctions on Israel. Australia must impose sanctions against Israel to compel it to end its genocide in Gaza, its illegal occupation in the West Bank, and its atrocities across other parts of the region.
