Had a lovely time discussing my memoir, WHERE TO NEST with .@RonitPlank on her podcast, Let’s Talk Memoir. If you’re interested in the process of writing a memoir, marketing it, and hearing me read a section of mine, definitely check it out!

Finished reading When She Comes Back by @RonitPlank two nights ago. For me, a good book instantly puts you in the protagonist's shoes and allows you to relate it to your own life, even if you've not experienced something similar. Fantastic read💙
In todays’s @substack I cover some possible POV/narration choices in memoir w/ examples from published work, an experiment w/ opening passages of my memoir WHEN SHE COMES BACK, & what I feel is the heartbeat of a memoir.

As an editor, I don’t know your family. I see characters, actions, situations. Looking at what you *wrote* rather than what you *remembered* can lead to a reconsideration of your life--and healing.
My next Substack newsletter is going out on Monday and I’ll be featuring an answer to a question about memoir writing, what’s new on the podcast, and some upcoming offerings!
As always, subscribing is free. Find me on Substack open.substack.com/pub/ronitp…
Hope to see you there 🧡

Writing memoir can be a kind of empowerment, a taking control of one's narrative. Even if we can't go back & stop
what happened in traumatic times, being able to be the architect of how we render our experience changes us & can be healing.
