Every Wednesday from 10am, you can come down to Rooted in Hull and help us with our work tending to the plants that feed us and learn about sustaining our planet through homegrown, healthy food. You might even be inspired to start growing your own food one day.

We have some fairly big news! We’re moving! Rooted in Hull is beginning the process of finding a new site in the city, moving to somewhere just as close to the city as we have always been and allowing us to continue the great work we have been doing in our community.

It doesn’t seem too long ago when we were lamenting the mileage clocked up by our Martin around the city on our eco powered bike! Well, now he has cycled the equivalent of a round trip to Addis Ababa, a quite ridiculous 5000 miles in the name of growing in the community!

A week in the Rooted sunshine has resulted in an explosion of planting, creativity and togetherness for the aptly named Rooted in Sunshine women’s group. All women are welcome to join us on Thursdays from 10 am, it’s free and includes a spot of community lunch around the table.

The sun came out We pottered about A local poet read some stuff out! Thankfully, real life published poet Richard Harries did not write the above, instead he joined us at lunchtime and read some of his real poetry in the sunshine, lovely.

Last September, Martin won a Make a Difference Award from the BBC, largely due to his work at Rooted in Hull. They invited us to go and celebrate 5 years of the award last week and we got to see backstage. This included sitting in the seat normally occupied by Peter Levy himself.

Neil and his niece, Frayah brought a taste of the Caribbean recently. They rustled up Grandma’s ancient Sunday rice and pea, dolma (not that Caribbean) and introduced Jonny cakes to the Rooted Wednesday collective. See you next week from 10 am?

Super hard-working Martin at it again in front of those BBC cameras, the Beeb just can't get enough of us! This footage may or may not make it to your screens, rendering the hours spent in makeup ever the more painful, so here's a sneak preview of the action! Action!"

Activities getting us through the cold months this winter on Wednesdays included making our own candles, using our own bee's wax. Filling the moulds was surprisingly therapeutic and produced a scent that accompanied us all for the rest of the day!

We enjoyed "Viola’s Carrot and Cardamom Soup" with volunteer Scott's usual homemade bread. Wednesdays are for everyone to help us get the place productive again. Join us from 10am. We’re not guaranteeing the sun, just a chance to get out and be with other people for a few hours.

We have almost made it through our quietest period. To celebrate the dawn of this year's Rooted activity, the sun came out for the Wednesday crew and we revelled in our planning of the year. Rich did his own egg and spoon race, there he is, look!

There’s still plenty to be getting on with down at Rooted. We have been making use of “The Garden planner” which is a new book produced by Waltham Forest Food Growers Network. The planner is available to buy from their website: wffgn.org.uk/shop
