There are many flaws with the deposit return scheme and @BeerMessiah outlines one of them here. Expect fewer choices and smaller beer ranges in your supermarket and off-licence fridges.
Having a Mandatory Logo is seriously damaging my business - I am faced with de-listing 90% of the canned beers that I import.
Other businesses are affected as well - @8degreesbrewing are faced with over-stickering 460,000 cans at MASSIVE COST.
An optional Re-Turn logo means less time wasted in sticking labels on 460,000 pre-printed cans. It takes 2 people x 1 full day to put DRS stickers on 2,000 cans.
Why so many cans in stock? Unlike big producers, microbreweries need to order large volumes long before they're used.

It’s a mess, competition in the market is going to massively reduce, loads of brands are going to exit the market. Only the big players are going to win if the existing labelling requirements stay in place.
The Chief Executive of Re-Turn has said that despite initial "teething issues" during the first month of the Deposit Return Scheme, people are now getting used to it rte.ie/news/2024/0304/143584…
Please - if you are talking to your public representatives - ask them to put pressure on Re-Turn to make the Re-Turn logo OPTIONAL on containers.

We have 460,000 pre printed cans that need these stickers applied. It takes 2 people x 1 full day to put DRS stickers on 2,000 cans

Smaller producers have to manually put little #DepositReturnScheme logos on bottles as from the middle of March retailers are not allowed accept stock in without them
The machines read the barcodes which all work and the logo actually does nothing.
This is crazy
The lads on the line this morning, re-stickering printed cans that won't work in the new #DepositReturnScheme - it's either that or scrap them. We're all for recycling, but this is now how to do it.
LISTEN BACK: Small Businesses Will Be Squeezed Out
@pjcoogan hears from Cllr Gobnait Moynihan that the Deposit Return Scheme will damage small shops & Scott Baigent @8degreesbrewing says they have 460,000 pre printed cans now a sticker added by hand

A great idea but unfortunately in current format set up to benefit large retailers & producers. It will massively reduce variety on the market.
The choice of soft drinks, beers & waters will be reduced to only brands big enough to push volume through the Irish market.
