The heat index climbs to 97-102° today with plenty of sunshine. This is just the start of the heat wave. Our heat index climbs to 100-105° through the weekend. #scwx #ncwx #myrwx @wmbfnews @acarrollwx

FIRE RISK | Gusty winds as the cold front passes through will promote the elevated risk for fire weather this afternoon. Winds of 15-20 mph will be possible with lower humidity, especially in North Carolina. #scwx #ncwx #myrwx @wmbfnews @jamiearnoldWMBF

10:30 AM THURSDAY - A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH has been issued for our entire viewing area until 5pm this evening. A cold front is interacting with unseasonably warm weather to produce the risk of isolated storms capable of damaging wind gusts. Further south across the Low Country, conditions are slightly more favorable for an isolated tornado or two and a TORNADO WATCH is in place.

SUNDAY MORNING UPDATE >>> The trend is our friend! New data overnight continues to shift developing Imelda well off shore and the risk of landfall has dropped to ZERO. It is now forecast to be a slightly stronger hurricane off shore and will likely be “top heavy” - meaning plenty of rain will extend well north of the center. Major flooding is off the table but heavy downpours are likely Monday and Tuesday. If we can keep those downpours in check, Imelda could be just what we need to end the worsening drought. I’ll have more details through the day. #SCwx @wmbfnews

Humberto continues to push to the northwest at 10 mph this morning. The current forecast calls for #Humberto to become a hurricane early Saturday morning, eventually reaching category three strength by Monday. @wmbfnews @jamiearnoldWMBF

Good news! That chance of development is now down to 0% as it moves westward quickly. Fernand continues to move to the northeast, leaving us quiet for any tropical activity this week. #scwx #ncwx @wmbfnews @jamiearnoldWMBF @jgreenhillwx

Goodbye, Erin! Erin is moving away from the Carolina coast this morning at 17 mph. Erin remains a Category 2 and will still bring dangerous surf and a rip current risk for the Carolinas today. @jamiearnoldWMBF @jgreenhillwx @wmbfnews #scwx #ncwx

Erin is a Category 2 hurricane this morning as it continues to move to the north-northwest this morning. That turn to the north and eventually northeast is expected later tonight. Impacts here will remain dangerous rip currents, minor coastal flooding and large waves. @wmbfnews

Despite the large spread in forecast models, it looks likely that we will miss DIRECT impacts from Erin. This is GREAT news for the East Coast. Keep in mind, Erin will be so large passing to our east next week, meaning we will still deal with an increased rip current risk and large waves. Just thankful for what looks to be another miss for us. 🙌🏼 @wmbfnews

MONDAY AM TROPICAL UPDATE >>> Shower and thunderstorm activity has persisted and continues to show signs of organization with a well-defined area of low pressure located to the west of the African coast. If these structural trends continue, the system is likely to become a tropical depression or storm, possibly as soon as later this morning or this afternoon. The developing system will then continue to push across the central Atlantic over the next 7 days. Beyond that time, the forecast is still uncertain. BOTTOM LINE - No threat to the Carolinas through the next week or so. If you’re planning on visiting the Grand Strand, keep those plans but also keep checking back in for updates. #SCwx @wmbfnews

We're under a LEVEL 2 risk for strong storms this afternoon and into the evening. This is no surprise with an abundant amount of heat and humidity around. Clusters of storms will form to our northeast today and push southwest through the afternoon hours. Excessive lightning, strong winds and heavy rain will be the main concerns in those stronger storms later today. #scwx #ncwx #myrwx @JamieArnoldWMBF @wmbfnews

Good Monday morning. I have a sneaky feeling we may see a severe storm or two develop late this afternoon into the evening especially from interior Horry County into the Pee Dee. With some sun this morning and PLENTY of humidity, we'll have some decent fuel for storms. Officially, the Storm Prediction Center has our area in a LEVEL 1 risk, but I would not be surprised if we got bumped up to a LEVEL 2 risk with their 9:00 AM update. I'll keep ya posted. #SCwx @WMBFnews

RAINFALL | A quick round of storms tonight won't amount to much in the way of rainfall. We need a good all-day soaking rain to help with the drought. Sadly, we won't get that today. @wmbfnews @jamiearnoldWMBF @jgreenhillwx @matt_wx #scwx #ncwx #myrwx
