‘My wife and I were greatly saddened to learn of the death of David Hockney O.M., a giant of the world of art and painting, a Yorkshireman through and through and a dear friend and inspiration to so many. David was one of life’s true originals; one who wore his genius as lightly as those beloved yellow Crocs of his that helped brighten Palace occasions. I trust they will see him tread safely into the hereafter as we mourn a man whose irrepressible charm, talent and constant innovation will be most sorely missed, but whose dazzling creativity lives on in galleries and museums around the world.’ Charles R

Hello Grimsby! 👋   The King has spent the day in Grimsby, meeting local leaders, organisations and businesses helping to shape the future of the town and create opportunities to benefit the community.   🧗At Horizon Youth Zone, His Majesty spent time with young people and heard about the afterschool activities provided to build confidence and social skills.   🤝 The King later visited The CARE hub, a community care and housing organisation designed to provide support to members of the town.   ⚽️ At Blundell Park, home of @OfficialGTFC and one of England’s oldest professional football clubs, The King joined members of the Our Future collective. The national charity works with people across Grimsby to build relationships, support leadership and create the conditions for citizen-led change.

Ahead of Trooping the Colour this weekend, The King, as Colonel-in-Chief, and The Queen, as Colonel, have presented two new Colours to the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards. 💂‍♀️ Since their formation, the Grenadier Guards have fought in every major war, including Waterloo, the Crimean War, the battles of the 1st and 2nd World Wars, and most recently in Afghanistan. Today, they serve a dual role as specialists in light role infantry operations, and the delivery of high-profile ceremonial duties. Addressing today's parade, The King said:  “The contemporary world presents new and evolving challenges, complex in nature and often unpredictable in form – yet I have every confidence that the adaptability, professionalism and steadfast resolve for which the Grenadier Guards are renowned will ensure that you remain as effective and indispensable in meeting these demands as you have been in every age before.”

The Duchess of Edinburgh, joined by The Duke of Edinburgh, unveiled ‘The Plants with Purpose Garden’ at The Royal Windsor Flower Show this week. 🌳 Co‑designed by Her Royal Highness and Alan Williams, the garden showcases the importance of healthy soil, planting for pollinators, and encouraging people to consider more thoughtfully how food is grown. The Duchess joined dedicated volunteers to help build the garden in the days before the show. 🌻This summer, the plants and garden features will be repurposed for local schools participating in a new RWHS Nature Studies Programme, extending the garden’s impact into outdoor learning. 📸 PA/ Sarah Legge/ Jason Ingram

It is the first time that four Commando units have received new Colours concurrently. Formally established in April 2025, the regiment draws on a long and proud tradition of Gurkha service to the United Kingdom, and is set to grow to more than 500 personnel by 2029. A new cap badge — the first in 14 years — was created to mark the occasion and reflect the expanded role of the Brigade of Gurkhas in modern warfare.
