Important point — online consent must be mandatory, with heightened safeguards for minors.
20 Dec 2025
Policies should mandate informed consent checks online. Children’s images must have extra protection because misuse cases are increasing. #ConsentInAdvocacy #RubarooWith16DaysOfActivism #EqualCommunityFoundation #1ActionForChange

Absolutely — stronger reporting tools and clear guidelines are essential for safe digital advocacy.
20 Dec 2025
Digital platforms must create stricter reporting tools for photo misuse. Clear national guidelines can support ethical, safe advocacy for all. #ConsentInAdvocacy #RubarooWith16DaysOfActivism #EqualCommunityFoundation #1ActionForChange

Exactly — digital platforms must share responsibility for consent and user safety, not leave it all to individuals.
20 Dec 2025
This puts the onus of the work to be done to withdraw consent on the user themselves, and no accountability is expected from the digital platforms

Very true — making redressal accessible is key to meaningful digital consent.
20 Dec 2025
A related change is the unresponsive redressal mechanisms that digital platforms currently have. These mechanisms need to be both strengthened as well as simplified to make the process of giving or taking away digital consent easier.

Important point — ongoing consent includes the freedom to withdraw anytime safely.
20 Dec 2025
However, one must be able to withdraw their consent to be a part of the digital space at any time without any legal repercussions

This really highlights the ongoing nature of consent.
This experience reaffirmed a hard truth: consent is not a one-time checkbox, it’s an ongoing responsibility. Ethical advocacy means protecting dignity long after the spotlight fades, and responding fast when narratives are misused. #ConsentInAdvocacy #RubarooWith16DaysOfActivism

This is a very great practice — honoring withdrawn consent protects trust and participant safety✅!

This really highlights how digital content can circulate beyond initial consent - a challenging reality for advocacy work.
About 2 years ago, our peer leader was featured in a global platform. We ensured all consent procedures. About 1 year after this, the random FB pages of her caste community picked her news. (n/1) #ConsentInAdvocacy #RubarooWith16DaysOfActivism #OTFWith16DaysOfActivism

Since In Plainspeak is a freely accessible digital space and the pieces that are shared are often about sensitive topics, we feel authors must have the freedom to choose if they wish to be publicly identifiable through the platform.

When it comes to our online magazine, In Plainspeak, contributing authors have the option to choose whether they want to publish their work anonymously, under a pseudonym, or with their names.

We slow down, explain everything, answer questions, and take written consent. No photos or stories are used without clear consent. #ConsentInAdvocacy #RubarooWith16DaysOfActivism #EqualCommunityFoundation #InformedConsent #ECF

Let's talk about #ConsentInAdvocacy #RubarooWith16DaysOfActivism @ecfindia @otf_india @DevConsIndia @TheSafecityApp @tarshingo @AgentsofIshq Q5: How does your team ensure consent is truly informed before sharing sensitive content online?

We emphasise that consent to be in these pictures can be revoked at any time, and we take responsibility for ensuring that we respect the same.

Very true - consent should explicitly address how content may be used and interacted with.
20 Dec 2025
Does sharing consent to posting pictures, for example, mean consent to receive comments from strangers on the post as well? Or consent for others to use those pictures in articles or opinion pieces?

Such an important insight - protecting participants while amplifying their stories takes care💛
20 Dec 2025
When it comes to personal stories, one challenge is striking a balance between digital advocacy and protection from harm. Organisations may have to zoom out to understand the risks that may come from making powerful statements about personal and sensitive information
