Another year over and the CCF is off for the summer. A holiday is all well and good but we miss the fun of Wednesday afternoons! All change too, as Maj McLean moves on to a new school and Lt Ben Welch, OC of the RM Section, takes over as Contingent Commander.
Only two weeks of CCF left this year! It's always a bit of a shame when the summer holiday starts and we don't parade for two months, though we shouldn't complain about the holiday!
Calling all CCFs! @CCFcadets Due to popular demand, @HQCadetBranch have directed us to run a CCF Basic (19/03B) at the beginning of the Summer Holidays from 22-26 July. As it stands we only have 7 CFAV bids on Westminster course no. 19/653129. We're looking for CFAV and ADS bids!
SHAPE of things to come - Lieutenant General Tim Radford of @HQARRC announced as @NATO's Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe (DSACEUR) | bit.ly/DSACEUR#WeAreNATO🇬🇧
An anniversary missed by one day! Yesterday was the anniversary in 1942 of when our former cadet Lt Cdr Sam Beattie commanded HMS Campbeltown in the raid of St Nazaire, for which he was awarded the Victoria Cross. We were delighted to welcome his son back to Rugby last year.
We're hugely excited to be working with @supportthewalk on a very, very exciting project to support their tenth anniversary next year. Details to follow...
Another fascinating piece of our history as one of the original (1860) cadet units of the British Isles - a Rugby School Rifle Volunteer's cap dated 1861. The condition is amazing! @CCFcadets
Two beautiful 1861 P53 Enfield rifles that have been in our possession since used by our shooting team until the issue of Martini Henry rifles in the 1870s.
Brilliant to welcome Capt Dutney, Reg Adj of @FirstFusiliers, our longest-standing sponsor unit, of which we originally formed a part within the Second Volunteer Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Always good to renew old friendships...
In deepest Northamptonshire, Rugby CCF is ready for a great day’s training tomorrow. The senior cadets are already out there - remember the old line about raining and training?
