Over half of the British public are cutting back on the number of presents they are buying for friends and family this Christmas, according to new research.
The poll also reveals many of us will entertain and go out less. But with just three shopping days left before Christmas, business leaders are urging the public to buy local and support small businesses.

Our hospitality scene is in crisis.
Restaurants across the country are closing at an alarming rate, and many chefs, owners and operators across Manchester are ‘on a cliff edge’.
They are calling for a reduction in VAT to 10% from the current crippling rate of 20%, more than double the average seen across Europe.
It would ease the pressure they’re facing from rocketing energy bills and the cost of raw materials.
