Minister of Land Reform and Rural Development Mzwanele Nyhontso led the South African 🇿🇦delegation which comprised of senior officials of the department and members of the parliamentary Portfolio Committe on Land Reform and Rural Development. Fifty six official delegations from various countries including Brazil 🇧🇷, Mexico 🇲🇽, Indonesia 🇮🇩, and Kenya 🇰🇪, civil society organisations, religious formations and academia deliberated on the key subject of agrarian reform, rural development and land reform. Minister Nyhontso who participated in various debates and panel discussions, reiterated the call for land justice, adding that there can be no compromise on the question of redress for past injustices, and reaffirmed the call for equitable access to land. What is #ICARRD20 and why are we there? The First International Conference on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (2006) marked a turning point - it placed just access to land as an essential condition to address hunger, reduce rural poverty, and strengthen peace.

"We need to dismantle the 'property' concept." Justice means: - Reclaiming the commons; - Expropriating private property to avail land; - Understanding the regulation, limit, and constraints on private because of how financialised it has become. ~ @RuthHallPLAAS #ULJG2025
