I don't think readers talk enough about how often books put thoughts into words that they've never been able to articulate themselves.

I think reading makes the world feel larger and smaller at the same time. Larger because you discover how much exists beyond your experience. Smaller because you realize how much people have in common.

I sometimes wonder how different I'd be if I had never become a reader. How many opinions, interests, and perspectives I would've never developed.

A good book gives you knowledge. A great book gives you understanding.

One of my favorite things about books is that they let you live hundreds of lives while only having one of your own.

Sometimes I wonder how many of my thoughts became possible only because I eventually found the words to express them.

A large part of my vocabulary came from seeing words used correctly hundreds of times rather than studying their definitions. That's why I can sometimes use a word perfectly and still struggle to explain it.

A good book can make you sympathize with someone you would have dismissed in real life.

I think one of the greatest benefits of reading is learning that your perspective is not the default perspective. It's just one among billions.

Reading has made me less interested in judging people quickly. The more stories you encounter, the more you realize that most actions make sense once you know enough of the context.

I think reading makes it harder to believe that people are simple. The more I read, the more I realize that most people are a collection of contradictions, experiences, fears, and beliefs that don't fit neatly into categories.

The antidote for brain rot is going back to reading longer formats: books, essays. Reading will help you rebuild your focus and attention span.

I remember how exciting it was to get a new notebook at the beginning of a school term. The pages were clean, the handwriting was neat, and somehow everything felt full of possibility. If only I knew how rare it would become to feel that excited about a blank page.

I just remembered how excited I was to stop using pencils and start writing with a pen in Primary 3. Funny how the smallest things felt like major milestones back then. If only I knew 😭

Do you think reading fiction makes people more empathetic, or is that something readers just like to believe?

The best book discussions leave you wanting to reread the book. The worst ones make you wonder if anyone actually enjoyed reading it.
