Now that the dust has settled, I have to give a bit of credit to Ruben Amorim. People canβt forget what he walked into 18 months or so ago. It wasnβt a positive place at all. He had to build from the ground up, rebuild the dressing room culture & try to get the foundations right before anything else. He was basically trying to make us walk before we could run.
Some of the signings under him turned out to be pivotal & you could clearly see he was trying to bring discipline, standards & structure back to the club. Yes, he had his stubborn flaws & there are still things that canβt really be explained like the Mainoo situation, but the reality is he just couldnβt get the results needed in the end & thatβs what ultimately cost him his job.
Carrick has come in & done amazing, no doubt about that, but he also walked into a much healthier environment than Amorim did. Would he have achieved the same if he took over 18 months ago? Truth is, weβll never know.
All I can say is I still respect Ruben for what he started & Iβm loving what Carrick is delivering now.
