I think about it a lot when I see recently beaten republicans, especially ones who have been in the game for so long like Cornyn, say stuff like this like it’s not the most obvious thing ever

Quoting this to say that I do think it’s somewhat important for liberals to not be so cynical about people.
If you’re a lib and think average people are hogs that can’t improve or be counted on for self governance, no matter the institutions, I think your liberalism is weird.

We’re so negative about “the people” these days
People were much worse then, more intolerant, less educated, etc etc
Why do we feel so much worse about the people today?

I saw a meme about how a guy 'isn't far-right', he's 'just a normal person from 1995'.
I looked into it and found that average people in 1995 tended to hold lots of views that we would now consider unacceptable.
