Bobby was a pioneer and legend in the sport! Not only a tremendous wrestler but a supreme coach and mentor.
Sad day for the wrestling community
Wrestling lost a true pioneer this week.
Bobby Douglas passed away at the age of 83, leaving behind one of the most impactful legacies in the history of our sport.
• 2× Olympian (1964, 1968) – 4th place in 1964
• World Medalist – Silver (1966), Bronze (1970)
• First Black head coach at a major U.S. university
• Head Coach of the U.S. Olympic Teams (1992, 2004)
• Led Arizona State to the 1988 NCAA Team Championship
• 427 career dual wins
Douglas was more than a coach — he was a teacher, mentor, and trailblazer who helped shape generations of wrestlers, including champions like Cael Sanderson.
His influence on the sport will be felt for decades to come.
Rest in peace, Coach. 🙏🏻
