Although it’s not as efficient at preg-checking as is our vet with her ultrasound machine when we work cattle in rapid succession, when checking just a few, this new Alertys On-Farm technology allows us to draw blood and quickly test chute-side on the front seat of a Chevy truck.

Dec. 9 rotational grazing of our breeding/calving farm location with this mixed group of bred and weanling heifers. There is some excellent grass waiting for them in the next paddock over.

Today’s updated drought map. Human tendency is to think droughts require both hot and dry, but they can exist the same when air temps are freezing. This one continues to worsen. We will be in it now through Winter and then who knows into what additional seasons past that.

The cows are on Spring grass and we have started some new projects. One such project is the concreting of the alleyway between the holding pens.

The ground is drying-up and the day-time temps are in the mid 40s. The main herd has been on pasture since Jan 25, and, based on the long-term forecast, it looks like that might remain the case for at least another couple of weeks.🤞
