What a joy to spend day one at TGCW connecting with women who love God's Word and care deeply about serving Christ faithfully. We've loved every conversation, from alumni sharing their stories to future students exploring theological education. Grateful for the encouragement and eager for the days ahead.

What stands out most from SBC isn't a single event or conversation. It's the people. Students meeting faculty face to face. Alumni sharing stories of God's faithfulness in ministry. Professors investing in future church leaders. Graduates serving churches and leading conversations across the convention. We're thankful for every person who stopped by the booth, attended the Alumni & Friends Luncheon, or spent time with us throughout the week. Thankful for another SBC and grateful for God's continued kindness to Southern Seminary.

We get a lot of questions at SBC, including: "What if I want the flexibility of online education, but I still want to experience campus life?" Our Experiential Modulars are designed to help students do both. Through Southern Seminary's Experiential Modulars, online students can spend time on campus, learn directly from faculty, attend chapel, and build relationships with fellow students, all without relocating.

One of the joys of SBC is seeing the Southern family gathered in one place. Throughout the day, our faculty connected with students and alumni, our graduates participated in important conversations across the convention, and friends old and new stopped by the booth to catch up and encourage one another. As we listened to reports, attended panels, and shared conversations throughout the day, we were reminded that theological education matters because the gospel matters.

The shirts went quickly, but the conversations are still going strong. From our alumni sharing what the Lord is doing in their ministries across the country, to our online students connecting with faculty in person, to prospective students asking what preparation for ministry looks like at Southern, our booth stayed busy all day. If you're at SBC this week, stop by and talk with us about how the Lord might prepare you for ministry at Southern Seminary.

Southern Seminary's PhD program prepares both scholars and pastor-theologians to strengthen the church. As the highest level of theological study, the PhD is grounded in a rigorous academic tradition and aimed toward service in Christ's church. Here students are equipped to teach, defend, and treasure the truth that shapes God's people. Whether in the lecture hall or the pulpit, the calling is the same. If God has called you to strengthen the church, this is where that calling is sharpened. vist.ly/56xwr

What a joy to spend the first day of SBC 2026 with pastors, church leaders, alumni, students, and friends. Every conversation is a reminder of why theological training matters and why we remain committed to preparing men and women to serve the church with conviction, wisdom, and faithfulness. If you're at the convention, stop by and see us!

For Dr. Duane A. Garrett, the Old Testament is essential for understanding the whole story of Scripture. He teaches students that the New Testament cannot be fully understood apart from the promises, patterns, and truths that come before it. In the classroom, Dr. Garrett trains students to read the Old Testament with confidence, helping them understand its message, its fulfillment in Christ, and its value for preaching and teaching. His work addresses both the technical skills of interpretation and the questions that can arise when studying difficult passages. Get to know Dr. Garrett, who invites students to see the depth, beauty, and enduring value of the Old Testament.

"The main thing I do, of course, is train people for ministry, and that involves giving them certain technical skills, especially the reading of Hebrew and understanding of what the Old Testament is about and how they should approach it. Beyond that, I seek to equip ministers and other teachers through my research and writing. I believe that there's much about the Old Testament that is misunderstood or misrepresented. Also, some people, although they are sincere in their faith and are not skeptics or seeking to be critical, still face doubts and questions about the Old Testament. They need to have their questions answered in a way that encourages their faith in the Bible. I hope my teaching and writing helps with that as well."

"For my students, I especially hope they have a good sense of what the Old Testament is, how to understand its fulfillment in the New Testament, and how to use it in preaching and teaching.โ€ Dr. Duane Garrett is John R. Sampey Professor of Old Testament Interpretation and Professor of Biblical Theology, and Chair of the Department of Old Testament. He teaches various classes on Old Testament Interpretation including Theology of the Old Testament, Beginning Hebrew, several Hebrew exegesis courses (including, among others, Ruth, Exodus, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Psalms). He also teaches Old Testament Introduction at the MDiv level and frequently leads PhD seminars on various topics.

On December 29, 1991, Zambia declared itself a Christian nation. It is reported that 95% of the nation identifies as Christian, but how much of that is genuine? Chopo Mawanza joins Dr. Paul Akin on our recent episode of #AmazontotheHimalayas to discuss this and more!

My book with @ivpacademic, Walking the Way of the Wise: A Biblical Theology of Wisdom, released exactly one year ago. I loved writing this book. The topic of wisdom is woven throughout the Scripture. If you're looking for some biblical theology to read this summer, or a gift for a recent grad, or a book for your small group or mentoring relationship, a book on wisdom might be a great option. If you've read it and found it helpful, drop by Amazon and say so. Readers and publishers and authors appreciate it!
