Today’s conversations focused on brackish groundwater desalination and the role it can play in Southern California’s water future. This is groundwater located inland that contains high salt levels, treated through advanced technology and added back into the water supply. Projects like this are important because they help create more resilient local water supplies while using less energy than traditional ocean desalination. WRD’s expansion effort is set to double its desalination capacity and represents another important step toward strengthening water reliability for Southern California. This is the kind of innovation and investment that helps build long-term water resiliency for our communities.

𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗮 SCWC’s Q2 Luncheon in Temecula brought together water leaders, elected officials, agencies, industry partners, and advocates from across California for another powerful day of discussion, collaboration, and connection. Hosted at the beautiful Wilson Creek Winery, attendees enjoyed an incredible venue while engaging in meaningful conversations about the future of water in California. From the morning board meeting discussions to the luncheon presentations and conversations throughout the day, the focus remained clear: building a more resilient, reliable water future for Southern California. Attendees heard updates on some of the region’s biggest water challenges and opportunities, explored the importance of infrastructure and long-term planning, and continued the conversations that help shape the future of water policy across the state. Events like this remind us that progress happens when people from different regions, agencies, and perspectives come together at the same table.
