For those curious, you absolutely don't have to play Tangle Tower first, The Mermaid Mask is its own story that can be enjoyed on its own terms. That said, it definitely does connect to the events of TT in various ways. (Some of those connections are even apparent from the demo)

The earliest paleo art and literature tends to depict dinosaurs as gross horrible violent monsters with bulging eyes, so I thought they would make a good central enemy for a survival horror game. But I gave up on it because I found myself not wanting to shoot them, it felt mean.

I was inspired by how the dinosaurs were described in Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World. Give this a read, it's great. If I had been brave enough to model them to be as horrible as these descriptions, I might have had something that could have worked

The other reason I gave it up, it's so much more difficult to make natural organic outdoor areas, (no straight walls, no doors) and this game seems like it would be almost entirely like that. Still, here's an early attempt at coming up with a bunch of varied areas

I should say that there absolutely -will- be a Crow Country successor, eventually, I just don't think it'll be about shooting dinosaurs (read thread to see why)
