Birder : trying to find 150 bird species from within Dundee in 2026. #2026Dundee150. Also BAND-MAID, Ren, other music, nature, planes, photos & random stuff etc
Definitely a new species of bee for me (if it is even a bee), seen at Balgay Hill this afternoon. Box-headed Blood Bee appears to be the most likely, but that is largely based on maps in Bees book.

I suppose this is probably the best time to share this wee Scotland World Cup song...🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
"We're the Tartan Army
And you know
We're gonna party
Win, lose or draw"....
A 1st summer/2nd year Arctic Tern between Glaxo, Montrose and Ferryden this morning. Believe this plumage may be still quite rare to see in the UK/Europe.
2-spot Ladybirds were very much in evidence today at the wee garden at the SE corner of Victoria Park/Balgay Park, Dundee. I counted at least 60 of them, including "six-spot melanic" (sexpustulata form - pic 1), and "4-spot melanic" (quadrimaculata form pic 4).
60 2-spot Ladybirds (of 3 types), 10-spot Ladybird, Ruby-tailed Wasp, 4 Painted Lady, 1 Red Admiral, Speckled Wood, Silver Y, possible Yellow Shell moth, Forest Bugs, Lacewing. Birds - Whitethroat singing at top of the Law was unusual, Nuthatch nest found, Treecreeper family.
STONEFACTION BIRDING: 1543 : Kilminning Time (30/5/26) stonefactionbirding2014.blog…
My first visit to Kilminning for a few years, (with birding buddy, Rohan).
This lone Lapwing which sneaked in unseen was picked up by @NijmegenBirder as he scanned across Invergowrie Bay. I had been hoping to run into the species today as Keith Edwards had 4 earlier in the week at RNP. Number 126 for my #2026Dundee150 list.
Immature Peregrine at Riverside Nature Park, Dundee this morning still very much looking like a juvenile (though surely too early for an independent bird born this year?) though primaries look to be moulted. Potential for a Calidus/Tundrius race bird?
While looking for insects at the Law this morning, I got notification to say a parcel was due(delivery 1030-1330). As it was 1020 & not wanting to miss it, I put camera away & headed for home. 10 seconds later, I spotted Osprey being harassed by gull, & ran to road to get pics.
