✨EXHIBIT SPOTLIGHT✨
Explore “Sam Houston, U.S. Senator,” now on display! This special exhibit highlights Houston’s Senate years (1846–1859) and was researched and created by SHSU student & museum student worker Alex Wright.
This day marks two special milestones for the Houston family. In 1843, Sam and Margaret welcomed their first child, Sam Houston Jr., at Washington-on-the-Brazos. Years later, in 1858, their seventh child and third son, William Rogers Houston, was born in Huntsville.
Today we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Pictured from our collection is a Purple Heart awarded to 2nd Lt. Francis H. Murray, Jr., USMCR, with a letter from President Truman noting he died in service at Okinawa on June 8, 1945.
🌟 Saturday Spotlights are back!
Join us Saturdays, June 13–July 25 (no July 4), 10 AM–2 PM for hands-on 19th-century demos. Discover something new each week!
